I have been using Localsend to send files from my Linux system to my cell phone, and it works just fine, but when I try to send files to my wife's Win11 system, I can not send files to it, however, I can send from her system to mine. I created a rule in Windows Firewall to allow all traffic from Localsend, but that has not worked. Likewise, I also added Localsend to the AV as an exception, but that has not made any difference. I do not know what else to try. I can send files from the Win11 system to the cell phones and to my system, which is why I assume it has to do with the Firewall, but with the rule I added should've resolved that.

I can send from the Win11 system, but it can not receive anything on the Win11 system. So it is like this Win11 can send to Android, but it can not receive files that I send from android or Linux

Oh, OK, now I get it.

I never used Localsend. There's something W11 is fighting with on the inbound. I'm not sure what it could be.

As Nick said, have you tried another service like NextCloud?

Why would the OP want to completely switch services/methods when localsend works for all computers except one? The better thought process would be, lets troubleshoot and figure out whats stopping it from working rather than just suggesting some other service, another member mentioned.

If another service lets the files go through, then we know. It's not just a W11 flaw.

You saying Nick is right?

Otherwise I use NextCloud for storage on a local network.

Have not tried anything else except Dropbox and RustDesk

Well other things like Dropbox which is using its program on Win11, I have tried using RustDesk to send files, but they end up corrupt and in one large file when I sent 3 smaller ones.

Which is what I am asking, what else could be preventing the system from receiving files, but can send without issue.

What I am saying is, your solution, as often as they are, offers nothing. You regurgitated something another member said and passed it off as offering advice. Your advice was to try and use something else. That would make sense if localsend didnt work at all, its on device that cannot accept localsend, your solution? Use something else, which is far from a viable solution.

For a moment, can you disable the firewall completely on your W11 box and see if it works? if it does, we 100% know its a firewall rule preventing it

He said he made a rule in the firewall to allow it to pass..

Circaflex, just drop it. It was a suggestion, not a solution.

I can respond back to anything on this forum and like always, you are the one that drags these things on with comments like that.

And perhaps he used the incorrect port or didnt set the rules correctly.

So can anyone else, how are you helping here? Besides telling me what I did wrong?

Do you actually ever read the things you quote? No, I dont know this, hence why I mentioned it... Its pretty common to easily make a mistake when adjusting the firewall. LMAO you always get so offended when someone calls you out, you go into this spiral of trying to nitpick words but look silly while doing it.

@jnelsoninjax give it a try, disable your firewall completely on the W11 box and lets see if you can send and receive. If it ends up working, we know we need to readjust the firewall rules and double check the settings. If it still doesnt work for some reason, we can rule out the firewall for now and see what else could be preventing it.

Why are we arguing this? If the firewall is dropped, it will either confirm that its the issue, or not.

It certainly wouldn't be the first time I've seen Windows 11 firewall rules not work as expected.

I have used Local Send in the past but because it does not keep the date modified of the original file, I just continued using Send Anywhere [free with ads].

If only Windows 11 is having an issue with receiving a file, then it could be something with the inbound rules or a setting in the Windows Firewall or whatever security software or firewall is used.

Hello,

Are all of the devices on the same network, or are you going out to the public internet, or even across something internal to your local network, like a bridge or Wi-Fi extender?

Were you able to send files before and it stopped working, or is this something that never worked?

If the former, were there any updates or changes to the network itself or the LocalSend software on any of the computers?

Can you see her computer from yours, and vice-versa?  Do ping and traceroute work between the computers?

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky

    • Cooler Master MasterFrame 600 PC case is now 33% off on Amazon by Ivan Jenic The Cooler Master MasterFrame 600 is currently $109.99 on Amazon, down from its original $164.99 list price. That's 33% off and $55 saved on this premium aluminum mid-tower case with a modular design. If you're upgrading your PC case and want something that doesn't force you into a rigid layout, the MasterFrame 600 is worth a look. The case is built around the Cooler Master's FreeForm 2.0 platform, which lets you reconfigure the internal structure according to your hardware. Magnetic side panels allow for straightforward adjustments, and the case supports everything from Mini-ITX to E-ATX motherboards without compromise. There's also generous cooling headroom. Four pre-installed PWM fans handle airflow out of the box. GPU clearance goes up to 410mm, and the case supports radiators up to 420mm with room for three simultaneously. Truth be told, this might not be the prettiest case on the market, but it’s highly functional. The aluminum construction keeps the whole thing lightweight despite its size, and the finish looks noticeably better than the plastic mid-towers competing at this price point. If you want a serious, flexible case that prioritizes function over flashy aesthetics like RGB lighting, the MasterFrame 600 delivers at a reasonable price.
