IT: Welcome to Derry (HBO Max)

Recommended Posts

A prequal series to Stephen King's IT. The show centers on what seems to be the origins of IT’s supernatural villain Pennywise the Clown and the first crop of kids to ever take him down and Bill Skarsgard will reprise his role as Pennywise the Clown

Shoot, I thought this was going to be about some tech guy that loses it in Ireland...

But it does look interesting. Is there a need for backstory on IT though?

If it's a true origin story of Pennywise it is worth it.  If they are just going to re-tell the story just in an early era then no.  I'll watch none the less 🤡

This won't be an origin story. Pennywise landed millions of years ago, not 1962.

Really enjoyed the first episode ... ending had me going WTF (in a good way).

Spoiler

...those kids had no plot armor ... the opposite of plot armor really.

I really thought they were rehashing the "Losers' Club" ... but NOPE.

Insane

10/10

I've never seen IT but have heard of it. This seems interesting and I could watch the prequel first

I recommend reading the book first. 🙂

Nothing beats the book, but you could watch the movie for a primer.

It sounds like the creators of the show have an ambitious 3-season arc.

Quote

"Our big story arc involves three seasons, mainly based on the three critical cycles of Pennywise, which are 1962, 1935 and 1908," Andy, 52, told the publication. The first season takes place in 1962, 25 years before the events of the 2017 film, and Andy explained that the series takes a "deeper" look inside the events leading up to the horrors inflicted upon Derry, and the history of its townsfolk.

"I went into the book and looked at the interludes," he explained. "I realized there was a hidden story there, and that Stephen King was leaving crumbs that could guide us somewhere. It's a story told backwards." While they didn't explicitly say they had three seasons already slated for the show, Andy did mention that it was the planned intention to get the entire story of Pennywise and Derry through.

Awesome, and WILD, first episode.  2nd episode is streaming early starting today to coincide with Halloween.

Strange title to the article seeing as we've known about the show's future for awhile now.

    • Looks like the 7.1 is fake effects, can it at least do real 5.1? It says 'virtual 7.1' in all descriptions.
    • You can't, if you didn't notice, it doesn't support surround at all, it's right in the spec list.
    • Hi — I’m always interested in soundcards. Like displays, I just want to know I’m getting as much clean “sonic juice” into my brain as possible as the years take their toll. I’m not entirely sure what to take away from this review, though. It doesn’t really tell me whether the AE‑X is a good product or who it’s actually for. Most of what I’m getting is: there’s a driver to install, here’s what it looks like, and here’s what’s in the box. There’s a lot of emphasis on the SPDIF input. When you mention not needing to switch headphones between console and PC — does that mean the PC has to be powered on just to pass audio through? That seems like a fairly big waste of energy. Is this more something a streamer would use alongside a capture card? How are you testing the sound? (Also, you might want to clarify that you’re using the headphones in wired mode when you mention they’re wireless.) You mention the lack of EMI shielding — how much real‑world difference does that make compared with typical motherboard audio? On multi‑channel: what exactly isn’t supported? Does this mean Windows spatial audio (Dolby Atmos for Headphones, DTS Headphone:X, etc.) won’t work, or just that the card itself doesn’t decode surround formats? And are there any true multi‑driver “surround” headphones left that would even use that? You also highlight support for high‑impedance headphones — but what does that translate to in practice? How does it compare to driving the same headphones from a normal device, and does it make any difference for everyday, lower‑impedance models? In short, who is this card actually targeted at?
