Mindovermaster Global Moderator Posted May 24, 2025 Global Moderator Share Posted May 24, 2025 Mandrake? Nice. 1998? Never used Mandrake. I might have used it YEARS ago.. Nick H. Supervisor Posted May 25, 2025 Supervisor Share Posted May 25, 2025 I looked at Mandrake when I first wanted to install Linux. But I think I was about 8 or 9 years old at the time, so I was way too inexperienced and we only had the family PC. If I had tried to install it I would have destroyed the computer. +Nik Louch 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1455071-going-through-some-old-linux-cd-this-was-my-first-linux-it-came-in-a-magazine/#findComment-598989601 Share on other sites

Matthew S.
I remember installing RedHat, Mandrake and even FreeBSD on an old IBM Aptiva in the early 2000's would have been roughly around 12-15 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1455071-going-through-some-old-linux-cd-this-was-my-first-linux-it-came-in-a-magazine/#findComment-598989653 Share on other sites
Barney T. Administrators Posted May 25, 2025 Administrators Share Posted May 25, 2025 I used Mandrake a few times. I thought that it was quite good. Started with Red Hat 7.0 and a dial-up modem. Those were the days! +Nik Louch Subscriber² Posted May 27, 2025 Subscriber² Share Posted May 27, 2025 To that end, back in the Win3.1 days, there was an app that was a replacement for ProgMan.exe, more like a dock at the bottom of the screen, I swear it was by HP but maybe not. The PC still ran Windows, so you still had all your apps, but just a different launcher. I confused the hell out of my parents with that!
