Gromvar
I'm happy with my setup. I have a raid 1 two drive Synology setup that I backup with Time Machine to every so often. What is your setup at home? Yonah 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1456261-your-time-machine-setups/ Share on other sites
sagum
TrueNAS here. Just a regular SMB share as set as a TimeMachine option. Been working great, MacOS does it's thing automatically with it. HP Microserver G8, the time machine runs from a single WD Red 1TB drive, don't really mind if it fails. Do have 3x 12TB Exos as the main pool + 512GB cache for storage though. Ixion
Not a system I'm familiar with, it looks a lot like a Western Digital MyCloud. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1456261-your-time-machine-setups/#findComment-598999607 Share on other sites

Ixion
Looks very consumer friendly, having said that I'm not a fan of the direction Synology is heading at the moment with having to use their own hard drives in their NAS units and lack of high speed networking without paying extra so I suspect my next NAS will be an ASUSTOR. Co-ords
I have a good old Time Capsule that still works great. Sadly next year with macOS 27 it will be depreciated so I will migrate my backups to my MacMini using a USB disk. thisdude
I use an external 5GB HD. I plug it into my MacBook Air M2 once a week. Usually on the weekends because I have time to mess around on the laptop. I've used my Time Machine backup a few times since 2020. That's when I jumped from Windows to Mac. It wasn't for anything critical. It was for some misc things that I've downloaded (music, memes, PDFS, etc.). So Time Machine has mostly been a time saver and helped with keeping more junk on my laptop lol. I have critical files backup with Time Machine. But they're in iCloud and OneDrive. Critical, being financial, medical, household, and family photos and videos. Have ya'll used your Time Machine backups to recover files? OliviaCoop
I usually use a combination of local and cloud backups: a NAS with RAID for backup, Time Machine for my Macs, and a remote cloud service for extra security. Gotenks98
I have one of those transcend sd card flash thingies for mine. It works well. My only complaint on TM is that it takes up so much space before it backs up. Is there a way to make it not keep the backups it saves to the hard drive before it backs it up to the sd card?
