how do i format my external 2TB Hard Drive

ok i want to back up my windows and make a recovery, i want to Create a image but wont let me do it on my Expansion HDD but it says this drive cannot be used to store a system image because it is not formatted .does anyone please know how i Format it? please so i can store it on my 2TB Harddrive, i have Windows 11 i tell u want i do have is AOMEI Partition Assistant 10.8.1? any good? Please help thank you nick uk

You can format the drive by opening Disk Management, right-clicking on the drive you want to format and selecting the "format" option.

But it will ask you what you want to format the drive to (FAT, NTFS etc.) What are you using to create the image?

I would personally use diskpart and use the the clean command on the entire disk before reinitialising. Then format using the method as described above. I don’t think you’ll get the FAT option due to the size of the drive but use exFAT or NTFS.

If it’s still failing, download the free trial of HD Tune and check the SMART status of the drive to make sure there are no issues.

Mini Tools Partition Wizard, Its free and has a simple interface, or Disk Management as previously stated
