Planning to purchase a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12

Recommended Posts

I think in all of my previous jobs Lenovo was the laptop provider. I've never had an issue with them.

With that said though, I probably wouldn't suggest the X1 Carbon range. For your average employee it's over-powered for what they will use it for, and that comes with a price tag. You could probably get away with providing them with the ThinkPad E14 - looks like it would be usable for employees to do their daily tasks, and it's about half the price of the X1 Carbon.

The prices of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 are pretty insane.

At those prices, Intel's older Meteor Lake processors add insult to injury.

I suggest the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 5.

Hello,

From looking at the specs at psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_X1_Carbon_Gen_12 it looks like a very capable computer.  Two things immediately pop out to me:

  • The RAM is not upgradeable.  This means that whatever amount of RAM you buy it with is going to be the amount of RAM it has forever.  So, make sure you get a model with enough memory to not just serve your current needs, but future ones as well.
  • The price.  This is a flagship unit (for executives, etc.) and commands a premium price.  Be sure to look around for coupons, sales and other deals to see if you can knock the price down a bit.

I have not used this particular model, but have used other ThinkPads over the years and they are quite nice machines.

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky

The X1 Carbon Gen 12 is ultra-light, super sturdy (MIL‑STD certified), and has that legendary ThinkPad keyboard perfect for heavy typing days. The OLED display is stunning, and the new Intel Core Ultra CPU brings nice productivity gains. Just be aware it’s not cheap, and battery life especially with the OLED isn’t the best compared to previous models. If you're often near an outlet or working on the go, it still rules the ultralight business category.

Ive been using an X1 Carbon Gen12 for my daily work PC since May of this year with the Ultra7 processor and 32GB of RAM. been a solid laptop for my use case (network admin work)

    • draw.io Desktop 30.2.6 by Razvan Serea draw.io desktop is a downloadable security-first diagramming application that runs on Windows, MacOS and Linux. Creating diagrams in the desktop app doesn’t need an internet connection. This is useful when you are disconnected or when you must create diagrams in a highly secure environment, where data protection is of the utmost importance. When you use the draw.io desktop app, your diagrams will be stored on your local device. Because this is a stand-alone application, also designed to run offline, there are no interfaces to cloud storage platforms available. Of course, you can still store your diagrams in folders that are synchronised to your cloud storage if you wish. Easy-to-use diagram editor The draw.io apps work just like the office and drawing tools you are used to using. Drag and drop shapes from the shape libraries and drag to draw connectors between them. Drag connectors to add waypoints and set a precise shape and position, or let them reroute automatically. Double click and start typing to add a label to anything. Create tables and swimlane flows with a familiar tool. Style shapes and connectors with customisable palettes, sketch options, fonts and text formatting tools. Search for shapes, including in open-source icon libraries. Use our vast libraries of shapes and templates, organised into logical categories, to create a range of diagrams and infographics. Generate diagrams from text descriptions using our smart templates.
