Is it possible to track which folders a program uses on Windows?

Question

I have a program that I have always running on a small mini-PC, but even when that computer is only running that program, I can see in the SMART data of the SSD that both reads and writes increase a lot.

Is there a way to see which folders it reads and writes to over time? I could try to map a RAM disk on those folders. I looked at the Temp folder, but things aren't being read or written there, it must be somewhere else.

Yes, as a simply way to start: on Windows search for resmon, head to the Disk tab and select the process(es) that you want to monitor.

There are other tools for logging, but this may be all that you need for now.

You can try using a tool like Monitor of Process in Windows. This is for monitoring file system activity in real time. I like it because it will show you exactly what files and folders your program is reading and writing, helping you identify candidates for a RAM disk.
