What are the top remote desktop tools for IT support?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!
I'm helping a small team that provides remote IT support to clients in various locations. We're looking for a solid remote desktop solution that's secure, easy to use and works well across different operating systems. Ideally it should support file transfers, multi-monitor setups, and session logging.
What tools are you using, and what would you recommend for a small IT team managing multiple clients each day?

Hi! I often help family and friends with tech issues remotely, so I’ve tried quite a few remote desktop tools over the years. I’ve used TeamViewer. It works well across different operating systems but the free version has some limitations, so it wasn’t ideal for me. The paid version should work just fine.
HelpWire is another option to consider. It’s free and meets all your needs: secure, easy to use and works across platforms. I’ve been using it lately and it’s been reliable. It could be a solid choice for your IT support setup.
AnyDesk also gets good reviews but I haven’t used it myself, so I can’t say how it compares.

HelpWire - https://www.helpwire.app/ supports Windows, macOS, and Linux.

They are fairly new compared to more established offerings, which is why its currently free. The team behind it are quite active on Reddit and have a good FAQ here:

we use TakeControl (with N-Able) for our unattended remote sessions, as well as for residential use there is a way to get in without them having it pre-installed.
