I am from that era when MTV just started. I think it was good right up until after they did the first season of "Real World" which started in 1992, and a load of reality programs spawned from it. I stopped watching MTV in the 90's.

MTV could replace Spotify for me if it didn't suck so much with all the non music content. I really only discover music videos now on YouTube.

I was glued to the tv during the early days of MTV, but once they turned to a more reality program based, I also stopped watching.

I get my music from Pandora and YouTube these days.  

While it's nice that they're "going back to the past", its not gonna change my habits.

I have no doubt that this will give MTV higher ratings than they have had in years.

This would be cool if:

• I paid for cable TV... I went internet-only with a 1Gbps fiber connection years ago.
• Every music video wasn't already available to watch on-demand on YouTube.

VH1 was my favorite back in the 90's when every music video have some kind of pop up knowledge

The issue I have with stunts like this is that it shows that at some corporate level, they acknowledge what consumers want, and then treat it like a gimmick.

That being said, I found a VHS full of (what I personally feel is) the golden era of MTV:

• Guns 'n' Roses - November Rain
• Shakespeare's Sister - Stay
• Curtis Stigers - I Wonder Why
• Two Unlimited - Twilight Zone
• Pearl Jam - Alive
• Genesis - I Can't Dance
• KISS - God Gave Rock & Roll To You II
• Army Of Lovers - Crucified
• KLF - Justified & Ancient
• Nirvana - Come As You Are

Not saying these are all amazing songs, but for me they marked a place and time.  Anyhow yeah, found this VHS, and what stood out to me is - wow, so few adverts!
