if it comes to hosting : do you host your photos on what!?

Question

good evening dear experts hello everyone, 😀

one little question regarding the photo-topic.

well  to be frank:  i have spend years and years on flickr and now i am fed up !

i am currently not very sure bout the pros and cons - so perhaps we can discuss it here. We can discuss the options - to switch from Google-photos to a self hosted system - and i would be glad to see a fruitful discussion

Question: how do you host your images - i am currently musing about the setup of a new version - the self hosted option - that runs immich.

Look forward to hear from you..

greetings 🙂

I suspect my answer will be a very old school one, however I just copy my photos to a share on my Home Server / NAS. The photos are all organised in to folders and automatically encrypted locally as their backed up to Backbaze B2.

That works for me, I can access the photos on my PC, or view them on the TV via a HTPC running Kodi. No need to let Google or another third party have access to my photos.

If I ever wanted to access them on mobile devices or share with family remotly, i'd probably add a Photo library to my Plex server and use the Plex Photos app.
