Mindovermaster Global Moderator Posted October 26, 2025 Global Moderator Share Posted October 26, 2025 This a SATA BR player? Or USB? Did you try a different player than VLC? Check the log for details. What does the log file say? You might need to enable logging before you can see the file. In VLC on Linux I went to Tools > Preferences, then accessed the "all" options rather than "simple." From there I found an option called "Logger" and then needed to tell it where to save the log file. Once you've done that, recreate the issue and let us know what the log file says. Jim K Global Moderator Posted October 26, 2025 Global Moderator Share Posted October 26, 2025 Are these retail movie Blu-rays? VLC can't decrypt the encryption w/o some additional work. Take a look at this... https://www.videolan.org/developers/libbluray.html Would also take a look at MakeMKV to help rule out drive issues before trying to "fix" VLC. It can rip Blu-Rays w/o additional work. https://www.makemkv.com/ Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1460578-new-blu-ray-drive-not-recognised-by-pc/#findComment-599023422 Share on other sites
Raa
If you just want to watch BR movies, I use Leawo Blu-Ray player software. It's free, works well. +Eternal Tempest MVC Posted December 6, 2025 MVC Share Posted December 6, 2025 If I'm not mistaken, BD drives have two lasers, one for CD & DVD, and one for Bluray's. I bought a used one of ebay one time, and br laser was out, cd & dvd's worked fine (got refunded w/o hassle). Have you tested various types of media, ex do you have access to blank / burned data bd's? I use an older (paid) version of Cyberlink PowerDVD 12. Can't say it's the best option, but it works with watching bluray movies on my computer. They may have a trial version you may be able to test with - https://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdvd-ultra/overview_en_US.html Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1460578-new-blu-ray-drive-not-recognised-by-pc/#findComment-599031029 Share on other sites
goretsky Supervisor Posted December 7, 2025 Supervisor Share Posted December 7, 2025 Hello, What is the brand and model of the drive? Does it read CD-ROM and DVD-ROM discs? Not the ones for music and movies, but for software?
