Not sure what to think about this, as it looks like it will be switched up to a modern retelling rather than being set in 1981.

That is what I read into the above statement by Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama.

As a reader of the original back in 1982 and the follow up "Growing Pains" I'll be keeping an eye out, but I'm only interested with it being set in the period it was written for.

Agreed not sure if it will good due to the update, I do not think they ever did reruns of the original series much?

I remember reading the books when I was 11/12 and they resonated with me...goodness knows why(!)

I'm not sure I'll get involved with this. But we'll see.

This was the same issue I had with "My Fat, Mad Teenage Diary" by Rae Earl, it's her diaries from the 1980s, but when it was made into a series they moved the time period to the 1990s.
