Looking for an E-PenPal

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I hope this is an alright place for this, as it is a hobby of mine. If not, feel free to direct me to the right place, and I'm sorry in advance :)

My former 7th grade history teacher and penpal of 10 years passed away about 9 months ago after a years-long and hard-fought battle with cancer. I'm starting to really miss the email chain. Would anyone be willing to start one with me? Here is a little about me:

- I can talk about most anything, but my main interests are technology, music, and video games. My favorite subcategories are systems programming, 90s hiphop and 60s-90s folk, and early 2000s FPS games respectively.

- I would avoid politics upon request and will prefer to change subjects if I feel either party is getting frustrated or annoyed. If we are opposite ends of the spectrum, I don't consider you a bad person, but would prefer to just let our differences of opinion go unaddressed :) if it's a determining factor in your decision, then I am a moderate progressive living in a blue state within the USA.

- If you are curious about my current phase of life, I am in my early/mid twenties, am a month away from graduating college, 2 months from starting my full time job as a software engineer, about a year away from getting married. I love to ask advice from those older than me and give advice to those younger than me (if prompted).

Let me know if you're interested, and I'll share my email with you somehow!

I'm crazy busy with work these days, but I'm available for PMs from anyone for any reason.

Going back to the IRC days, I would say 37/M/UK. Interests are wide-ranging, and I used to work in IT before I opened my hobby shop - I keep meaning to make a post about that, but as mentioned above I'm quite busy at the moment.

Feel free to reach out if you want a 1-1. Otherwise I would suggest using the forum to get a wider audience involved in whatever you want to talk about. Most of us try to be friendly around here, and if they aren't friendly I refer them to the community rules.

Sorry for your loss :(

^ This!

Social media killed forums, and it seems like you want the back and forth on discussions that we actually cater to, and you can set your subscription method on topics to email you (immediately or once a day) so you could have discussions on different topics going.

Although I work from home I don't think i can commit to a regular email 1 on 1 with all my other duties but I can absolutely chime in on topics that interest me.
