No. We customize our desktops because we're geeks with apparently too much time on our hands.  

Would you chastise someone that was just running through the terminal, no DE?

The joy of Linux is being able to customise it how you want it to look. If the default and a couple of widgets on the desktop is all you need, I say fair play to you.

Just got Niri up and running on CachyOS. Thinking this might be the best Window Manager I have ever used

Arch has become what it was to me windows xp. Indeed, I like Vista more and hence the icons. Bring bang skeumorphism!
