Nvidia RTX 5070

Hi everyone.

Having some trouble with an Nvidia RTX 5070. Keep on getting BSOD with error POWER_SAVING_STATE_FAILURE.

Have turned Power Saving in Nvidia Control Panel to Maximum Performance rather than Normal so it's not throttling the power delivery, but it's still playing up.

Anyone had this problem or encountered this issue?

Any help would be awesome.

There any update to driver/firmware?

I'm not that well versed in NVIDIA, but 90% of the time, an update will help.

You running Win 11, btw? What version? Might help for other people.

Does the BSOD occur when it's in Normal power setting? Out of curiosity, is your PSU have capacity to handle the 5070 and the rest of your PC? What peripherals do you have connected? 

Just general recommendations: 1) Update drivers and 2) Run sfc /scannow

Done both and no luck Sonic. As for 5070 I got a 2025 RM1000e Corsair so it's more than capable of powering it. Black screen of death occurs in normal and max performance mode unfortunately.

Got a MSI Tomahawk B760 WiFi with 32gigs of DDR5. It's got pci5 slot and the 5070 actually runs at pci5.

Peripherals. I have a Nuphy Field75 keyboard. HyperX mouse. Webcam, solo cast microphone, the whole kit and kaboodle.

I update the drivers every time their released via the Nvidia app, so I think the latest I'm on it 591.74. 8th Jan this year I think......

Reckon it's something to do with the driver compatibility and the card actually drawing the required power. Maybe a back end problem in Nvidia drivers.

There a chance you can revert to an earlier driver, and see what happens? Did this driver update the thing that caused all this?

Hello,

Have you tried disabling ASPM (Active State Power Management) for the PCIe slot that the card is plugged into?  This can usually be done from the BIOS (UEFI) settings.

Can't say mate. Its a new card, so I havent tried drivers pre 591.74 soz.

I have check ASPM and it's set to disabled in the BIOS anyway, so BIOS is handling power states. It's a weird one isn't it?

The actual error is DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. I assume this is the driver having problems regulating the power at this stage but unfortunately I think this is an Nvidia issue. Not something I'm able to fix?

As said above, you can ALWAYS go back a driver version.

The latest isn't always the greatest. Bugs...

I had constant bsod’s with new 5080 and mb bios update fixed it.

I'm running the latest beta BIOS Joni. Actually had to reinstall Windows for it to quieten down.

Raised a ticket with NVIDIA and they said to monitor it and watch it going forwards.

You said you reinstalled windows, was that a clean install? If not a clean install did you previously have an nvidia card?

Are you sure it's the 5070 that's actually producing the error?

Are there any codes when the BSOD happens? have you tried using something like Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to wipe all of the nvidia software and reinstall with a fresh driver?

Yes I did have a NVIDIA card previously. Had an NVIDIA 3060 but after a reinstall of Windows, not one BSOD thank goodness.

Thanks Steven, but the built system is my daily driver. I had to fix it as I game and use it regularly.

I did use DDU in Safe Mode to clear all the drivers off. Unfortunately when I reinstalled the drivers, it still BSOD'd on me, so I was still up the creak w/o a paddle.

A full Windows reinstall did sort the problem though, so now I'm running fresh WIndows 11 with 591.74 Nvidia Driver and App. Everythings nice and buttery smooth now,
