What hobby got you hooked first and why?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I’m curious — what hobby did you start with that you got really into and why? Whether it was collecting, crafting, gaming, walking, model building, cooking or something else, share your story. I’d love to hear what got you started and why you enjoy it!

Here's one I bet no one else has been into on this forum. My very first "hobby" was raising homing/racing pigeons with my dad. Was into it from about the age of 5 until I left to go into the Army at 18. We had some pretty decent birds after a few years of breeding them properly and training them. Won a few bucks and trophies over the years. Always enjoyed those times of hanging out with my dad.

My first hobbies have to be reading and Lego as a child, Later it was working on cars and programming computers (from around the age of 10 for both), I am 50 years old soon and still have all 4 of those hobbies.  I like to do other stuff too, But those are my main passtimes.

My Dad used to do that, Racing and fancy pigeons like tumblers, It wasn't something I got into myself though.

We used to have fancy pigeons also. Mainly Fantails and Pouters. I remember getting slapped in the face 1 time by a Pouter when I was very young and never liked those kind again! 🤪

Had Tumblers also. One's we had we got from a guy who raised them to fly so high, they were out of site. When they started descending, is when they would start their tumbling.

I think reading, which is probably the most popular "first hobby", maybe second only to gaming for younger generations. I got into it early on, probably from being rewarded by teachers and my parents for doing well on reading assignments in school. I read Diary of a Wimpy Kid when the book came out, I was in first grade ~2007. That book was a big deal among all the kids who liked to read. After that I just regularly checked out books from my elementary school library, then middle school, then high school. I think my taste peaked in like 5th grade when I read Moby Dick lol. I've been reading sci-fi ever since, with all my reads varying in the quality of their writing.

My first real hobby was exploring online content and learning new skills. I got interested because I wanted to understand how things work, especially in digital space. Over time, it turned into a habit of researching, creating content, and improving skills. It’s something I still enjoy because there’s always something new to learn.

    • Sound Booster 1.13 Build 575 by Razvan Serea Increase volume on your laptop. Boost the volume of even very quiet speakers. Raise volume above maximum. Letasoft Sound Booster can be used as an extra amplifier when the volume of the program you are listening to is too low for comfortable listening and you feel that your PC’s speakers can produce a louder sound. This can be the case when the audio or video has been recorded at the level below normal. Or, for example, when the other person’s microphone you are talking to on Skype, is not working properly. There can be a plenty of other reasons why the sound is being too quiet and there is not much you can do about it except buy external speakers. Sound of any application that is being played in the system can be amplified up to 500%. Letasoft Sound Booster can raise volume of programs like web browsers, on-line communication software (Teams, Discord, Zoom), any kind of media player or games. Simply put, volume of virtually any program that can play any sound in PC, can be boosted to a comfortable level with Letasoft Sound Booster. You can control current volume with the pop-up slider from the system tray. Alternatively, you can assign system-wide hot keys for increasing and decreasing, and use them when you need to adjust volume Letasoft Sound Booster constantly monitors current gain level and prevents samples from clipping, thus reducing all major sound distortions. • I own these and the normal QuietComfort ones from Bose. The QC are amazing and I want to love these, but for the life of me, I have a terrible time getting them attached to my ears.
    • Thanks for the tip. I am giving it a try. Initial quick impression: I like it.
