Satechi USB-C hub not fully compatible

Recommended Posts

I have a Satechi USB-C hub [Satechi 8-in-1 USB C Hub multiport adapter v2] where I have via USB-A a connection to a Steelseries RGV-mousepad, and charging of my Razer mouse.

Since I have Windows 11 25H2 (and my new notebook) there seems like a compatibilty issue. The connecting sounds keeps on popping up, and my mouse - when charging - does not respond [when disconnecting the USB-C hub the mouse is working).

Via Device Manager I already have uninsttalled all "USB Root Hub (USB 3.0)" entries, and rebooted Windows.

The issue still appears.

Is there a compatibitly issue with Satechi and my notebook?

Are you using the USB-C pass-through port to charge the notebook / power the hub?

If I had to guess the devices connected are not getting enough power from the hub, which is why you hear the disconnecting sound.

USB hubs are terrible, even when they come with their own power supply.

But as @InsaneNuttersaid, it sounds like your hub isn't getting the necessary power for what you have connected. Do you know what kind of power the notebook can provide on the ports?

Where can I find how much power is provided to these USB-C ports?

EDIT:
Google AI Overview says:
"The Asus ROG Strix G16 (G614FR) supports up to 100W (20V/5A) Power Delivery (PD) via its USB-C ports. "

Hello,

Make sure your new notebook is fully up to date in terms of both operating system updates from Microsoft and drivers from ASUS.

Make sure the laptop's 280W AC power adapter is plugged in.

Now go ahead and try connecting the Satechi USB-C Multi-Port Adapter to your  ASUS ROG Strix G16 (G614FR-S5013W) notebook via its integrated USB-C cable  directly to one of the notebook's USB4 ports.  Do not use any kind of extension cable or adapter cable.

Does everything now work?

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky

I'm using the original AC from Asus.

It looks like the power is lacking... kind of strange, because my previous Asus gaming notebook (see secundary in sig) doesn't have that issue (from what I remember). And it's 6 years older.

@Nik LouchHow do I know if it's gettng enough power?

You get your hub, you look at whether you've plugged an AC adaptor into it.  If not, then no.

That's what PD is for - you plug your AC adaptor into the hub and then the hub into your laptop, and don't plug the AC adaptor into your laptop.

Power adapter/cord is connected to notebook. Still issues.

I have just ordered a new Satechi USB-C Multiport Adapter 8K with Ethernet V3, incl a 100W external power charger, and a 100W Charging Cable USB-C PD 3.0 Fast Charging Cable to be plugged into a power outlet.

Power shouldn't be an issue now... :D

Like I said, don’t do that

Setup is/will be:

Notebook & original ROG 280W AC Adapter plugged into power outlet

than/and... Satechi USB-C Adapter, 3m 100W Charging Cable USB-C & 100W external power charger into power outlet

Notebook has original AC power-only, and USB-C hub has its own power supply. Both are having their own power supply.

What can go wrong?

@Nik Louch Is this also 'don't do that'? If the latter, I don't know what you mean by that - and what other setup there need to be to give each enough power.

I just received the new Satechi USB-C Adapter
And without an external power supply it looks like it works... no alarming bleeping sounds on connection.
I will wait for the external power delivery (cabel and charger) and connect to it later today (if the parcel arrives).

Just after a random reboot (W11 bug?) my notebooks started making connection sounds again.

Is turns out/seems that the Razer Basilisk V3 Pro 35K connected via USB to the Satechi hub is causing this. When disconnecting, or plugging it in directly to my notebook solves this.

Looks like it has something to do with peripherals attached to this/a USB-hub are causing this. Anyone experiece with this?

EDIT:
On my previous gaming notebook (Intel-based) this issues doesn't occur. Even with the previous Satechi hub.
Maybe it's AMD/USB Root Hub related?? But only related to this Razer device.

  • 4 weeks later...

The conclusion of ASUS tech support is that the motherboard of my new notebook is damaged/broken. Also, the right speaker is not functioning properly.

ASUS cannot make it to have a replacement mobo to me (in due time) and is offering a same or better model than I'm currently having. Let's see.

    • Thanks for liking it! 😊 That's Arch Linux with Gnome.
    • LOL. Can't even quote and edit a comment correctly. Figures you're a Linux user.
    • It won't perform hugely better than the 3080 unless you're VRAM limited in games. Have you tried putting new thermal pads on them 3080 and giving it a good clean to see if you can regain your temps and overclock?
