Hi everyone;

I've made the decision to buy a new gaming system in the upcoming week (maybe 2) despite prices being very high for some components. Me (and my son) don't want to wait any longer and found a good looking prebuild.

The only reason we might hold off for a couple of weeks is if there is any chance of RTX 50-series Super graphic cards coming out in March or May. I've read rumors they might be cancelled or have different configurations as originally planned to, but I nothing official as far as I know. I came here for a second opinion (through Gemini haha).

Should we wait, maybe a month longer, for Super cards to be available? Anyone here who could give me a decent answer regarding this?

I highly doubt there will be a SUPER this year what with the way GPU and memory prices are, and expected to continue through the rest of the year.

PC builders have reverted back to DDR4 memory and PCI 3x4 SSDs, that should tell you something.

If you want advice, look around for a 7900 XTX It dropped quite a bit in price due to the 9070 XT (which has exploded in price vs its MSRP) the newer 7900 XTX variants have 20GB memory so it might be worth looking around for a second hand 24GB variant. It is up there with the 4080 SUPER. If you have you heart set on a 50x0 SUPER or 6000 card, then it makes even more sense to get a "decent" second hand one now to tide you over until this madness with AI buying up all memory and SSD storage ends.

If you can afford it, the 5070 Ti will be better than the 7900 XTX and 4080 SUPER.

You can also get some insight with Amazon price history, although I think it only goes back 90 days, when the price hikes had already started.

If you want a longer price history for Amazon keepa goes back twelve months, it's a browser plugin for all popular broswers.

Yikes.

Personally not a big AMD fan (GPU-wise). I've seen so many issues with drivers in the past that it makes me want to avoid the GPU's all together. Often I hear "that was a long time ago" but then after a couple of months they some driver issues again in some games. So I'll stick to Nvidia.

Steven P. could you please take a look at the pre-build I'm hoping to buy and give your 2 cent about the hardware it uses? I'll probably go for this build.
The system builder operates not too far from me and I can go pick up the system myself (I don't like to ship these things).

Cheers.

Couple of weeks ago we purchased the system I mentioned and I now come back here with some feedback (for what it's worth).

After our purchase I got a call from the builder to talk through some details and the next week my system was delivered. It was delivered by a driver who clearly knew he was dealing with a computer and handled it very carefully.

Thank god we didn't wait for RTX Super cards lol. The system is running very smooth without any hick-ups and it looks amazing. The cablemanagement is impeccable.

You obviously haven't been keeping up with what's been happening recently then. Nvidia drivers for the 5000 series have been having a LOT of issues. Driver problems are by no means just an AMD thing.

Yeah both have had issues especially 7900 XTX idle power not working correctly for months after launch and black screen issues with the 5090.

I generally stick to Studio drivers now though with my 5090.

There's a guy who extensively tests the Nvidia drivers on reddit, so I recommend checking that before updating a new driver anyway.
