+InsaneNutter MVC Posted March 9 MVC Share Posted March 9 Andy Nguyen aka theflow0 is well known in the console hacking scene for hacking Sony consoles and calming some large bug bounties. He has now ported Linux to a hacked PS5 and submitted a pull request to Mesa for adding PS5 GPU support. As per the video in the Tweet below, Linux on the PS5 seems very capable - running GTA 5 Enhanced complete with Ray Tracing: The PS5 could well double up as a very capable Steam Machine in the near future! Mindovermaster Global Moderator Posted March 10 Global Moderator Share Posted March 10 I thought Linux was already on some earlier versions of PlayStations. Unless he mean Linux natively? +InsaneNutter MVC Posted March 10 Author MVC Share Posted March 10 You could run Linux on the PS2 and PS3 officially, however on the PS3 the option was removed when the sandbox Linux ran in was exploited and used to hack the PS3. On the PS4 and PS5 its only possible to run Linux via exploits on older firmwares now. I thought this was newsworthy as proper hardware acceleration is now possible on the PS5, allowing PC games to run really well.
