Convert DMG to ISO on a pC?

Recommended Posts

Nero will burn DMGs with the right settings, but it wont be bootable if it is an OS disk.

Not quite true. I have burned one successfully before. There are a few requirements though:

1. the DMG *must* have been made as a CD/DVD master, not compressed or encrypted

2. you must select Burn Image in Nero, then browse to the DMG file. You can either change the extension on the DMG file to .ISO or select *.* in the dialog box

3. on the "foreign file" dialog box, you must select HFS, not any of the other options

Using this technique, I've successfully burned Panter CD's that were bootable.

I hate to be a dick and backtrack an old topic, but honestly.. people are asking how to convert a dmg to an iso. They're not asking if you think their copy of Mac OS is legal. In fact, nobody even said it was for the purpose of burning an OS disc. Everyone just assumed it.

Unless you've got a nightstick at your side and a badge on your uniform, and drive around in a car with red and blue blinkers on top of it, why does it matter WHAT they're doing? They're not being open and blunt about their actions - just asking a simple question.

Right on a_shimoon for not being a douche.

As was said earller if it was a CD\DVD image Nero will burn it just fine. As for Nero 6 you don't even have to select foregn Image as it is allready select when you open the file. .Toast is the only format I have had problems with on a PC. Now I just convert them to ISO with My IMac then burn them with the PC.

Screaming Warez on every post is getting a little old! I ask this question ages ago and got the same responce. I even said in my post that my IMac had no CD-Burner so I had to do it from My PC. Neowin was a good place to go when you needed help. Guess those days are gone.

I think a lot of this came about because of PearPC. After it came out, there were tons of people asking how to convert DMG files (which is the standard format you'll find OS X CD's in on Usenet or P2P) to ISO (which is needed for PearPC). Had it not been for PearPC, people wouldn't reflexivly scream "warez" every time someone wants to do this.

So true!

I guess 95-99% of the .dmg files on the internet holds applications for Mac OS X, which would be unusable on a Windows computer anyway... ;)
