s3 storage providers comparison

Tested: idrive e2, wasabi, backblze b2, seagate lyve cloud, impossible cloud

Onboarding:

best:backblaze b2, idrive e2. both equally easy to onboard.impossible cloud: extremely easy

meh: wasabi was just, ok.

Access key creation:

best:idrive e2, seagate lyve cloud both have easy ways to save everything in a text file. idrive e2 has best presentation. impossible cloud: extremely easy

meh:backblaze b2,wasabi both were kinda clunky

Bucket creation:

best:idrive e2, seagate lyve cloud very easy process, impossible cloud: extremely easy

decent:wasabi, backblaze b2 decent process

Bucket features:

best:backblaze b2, seagate lyve cloud both have public buckets with no requirements

worst:wasabi, idrive e2 both only have public buckets on request and approval, impossible cloud very basic, no public bucket option

Restrictions:

least restricted:backblaze b2

restricted in thier own ways:wasabi (public bucket requirements are steep) idrive (no public buckets unless you buy 10TB or higher plan and get approval for use case), seagate lyve cloud (biz use only, no cdn use),impossiblecloud: no public buckets

Cost:

all were affordable, idrive e2 was the cheapest.

Recommendations:

for general use: backblaze b2: least restrictions, bang for the buck, cdn integration.

for serious enterpise use: seagte lyve cloud. if seagate goes down there's not much hope for the tech industry and you have bigger fish to fry.

for webdev and cheap backuo: idrive e2. very cheap for the first year and not too bad afterwards. even has 10gb free plan which would be good for a few website backups.

and this concludes remixedcat's first 5 s3 storage providers review.

What are you using S3 storage for out of curiosity?

I used Backblaze B2 to backup my important data off-site for quite a few years. Eventually as the data I was backing up grew, I realised it was no longer as cost effective as other options.

Hetzner's Storage Box gives 1TB for € 3.20 per month or 5TB for € 10.90 a month, with quite a few different ways of connecting to it.

I appreciate its like comparing Apples to Oranges comparing Hetzner to S3, however depending on the use case could be a good deal (as you mentioned web backups in your post).

website backups, encrypted rclone/rsync backups, i ditched onedrive and dropbox.

my website control panel has backuply and it has s3 options and it makes it super easy to backup and restore to and from s3 storage!

also need a biz backup for my strictly professional stuff. not trusting dropbox with that.

I admit maybe we were considered this time around because of the extra coverage UFC was getting and they wanted a broader audience for this release? IDK. I can tell you that we aren't paid to do the reviews, the fun part of it is (mostly) being able to keep what we review and giving an honest opinion on what we're reviewing.
