Hello people,

Hope all is well.

I am looking for a new printer as my Epson WF-4630 is showing its age.  I need to do a nozzle clean up every time I print something. Otherwise, it doesn't print the letters properly.

I have about £400 to spend. Please can you suggest something I would like recommendation for Laser colour and inject printers. I am looking for a printer which has copy, scan, print and fax functions.

Which one is the best one to buy and does not have too pricy ink.

I am in UK so if you can provide me the link for your recommendations I can look up.

Thank you.

Brother would be my go to for Laser based on how good they review, I've got a basic Mono and I could never go back to inkjet.

Checkout the range and Google to price up the best, you can get something great for under £400, the prices are cheaper than this link.

Do you print often? I had this conundrum and I've been printing a lot recently (kids). I ended up going with an Epson Ecotank that I picked up at Costco for $200 USD - came with full color ink tanks + black, and an extra black ink tank. It's printed over 400 pages over a year and it's not even used up quarter of any of the tanks. I was very hesitant to go with a tank based printer, but it's working great. The replacement ink is comparable to cartridges and cheaper than toner. They also come with fax, but mine doesn't have that capability (don't need it)

I'd go laser if you print infrequently. Brother is reputable.

Check Costco UK or other UK based retailers

I have a Brother with tanks as well (as i was tired to do magic resets when filling up the epson printheads), works pretty well, we print rarely (documents, some coloring pages for the kids, tried some photos etc).
For the price it is very nice, I was amazed how fast it prints, and given the volume of the prints + the possibility to do color stuff for me is a better fit than a laser jet.

I bought this for my mother, who seems to have very similar printing habits to yourself, and it has been serving her just fine.

Brother HL-L3240CDW Colour Wireless LED Printer |Single Function |USB 2.0 |A4|UK Plug : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

Considering your AIO demands, I'd maybe look at:

I also recently went for a Brother and haven't regretted it, I got the MFC-L3760CDW series which is a colour laserjet with copy/scan/fax! It was on sale on Amazon a couple of months ago but there's not much to pick between any of the colour units which all look the same other than printing speed and whether you want an automatic document feeder on the scanner.

I love my Brother monochrome laser printer.  It's great!  I'll never go back to inkjet.

I also know a business that uses multiple Brother all-in-one color lasers... they're great too.

What do you print?  If you print just text  and documents then one of the Brothers LED printers will do the job. I have a HL 3150CDW, it is getting on now, but still works great, no scanner, but you can get Brothers LED printers with Scanners.  The only problem with Brother printers these days is the toner are chipped, so difficult to get third party, so I have been told.

If you are doing photos then you do need an Inkjet. I used to be and still am a fan of Canon printers, if  you go for Canon then look at the Megatank range.
Last year I got myself a Epson ET-8550, fantastic printer, but pretty expensive, but maybe look at the lower price Inktank Epson printers.

you pay more for the printer that have inktanks, but if you do a lot of printing, then they save money in the long run.

You have to look at what you print and how often you print.

I said I would never go back to inkjet after getting my Brother LED colour printer, 5 years later, got a inkjet :)

I still think my Brother printer is great, for text and documents, and certainly faster and cheaper to use than the inkjet.  But the accuracy of the colours are not there, or I can't seem to get them. Also remember that a lot of Brothers so-called Laser printers are not laser printers, but LEd printers.

Reliability wise my Brother printer is great

agreed. i've had my Brother printer since 2013 and it's still going strong. i use the printer a lot too. 1-2 toner cartridges a yr. TN750. they're solid.

I have a Canon Pixma TR4500, it was in storage for months when I was moving home and I thought it was gonna be cooked when I brought it back out but it was fine after it auto-cleaned the heads. Does Scan/Photocopy, Fax (if you even have a phone line anymore 😄) as well. Wireless or wired printing too.

just dont buy HP

Hp laser printers used to be built like tanks and would last for years, not sure what they are like now.
HP ink jets were a different kettle of fish, I knew a fair few people who have had HP ink jets over the years and most have failed within a couple of years or less.

Saying that, my sister-in-law had a HP inkjet for years, used most days, never a problem.
I don't think they are great for photos, again the best ones for photos are Canon or Epson and I don't mean the cheapo throw away types either.

Since you are in the U.K, I would look at them from printerland

https://www.printerland.co.uk/printers/brother/multifunction/laser/colour

There are a few there, look at specs and price.

LED printers more or less work the same as lasers, but uses LEDs under the lid instead of rotating mirrors and laser. So less moving parts.
The rest is the same as a laser, they used to be cheaper, but not so much these days.

That's the same one I went for, the single shortcoming I've found with it is the automatic document feeder is single sided only and you have to reverse the pages halfway through, unless you're doing a lot of scanning though it's really not a hardship. Print quality is good and output is fast, it supports secure printing on Windows 11 24H2 onwards.

As been said single sided scanning, you can scan double-sided but you need to turn the documents over. As also been said not a problem if you only do a small amount of scanning.
Auto double-sided scanning cost more,
The one linked below cost around £451, so a bit more.
But the one you linked to is a good price, considering my Brother printer only was around £250 i think when i got it around 7 years.

The link below is for a higher model, that will scan both sides, but it depends if you want need that function.

Maybe you should have a look at some reviews and see what other people think or maybe find a youtube video.

My only issue with the printers are the toner cartridges, my printer as i said is getting on a bit now and is before the days that Brother decided to do what other companies do and chip the cartridges, to try and get you to buy their toner.
I have had a look online and some people are saying don't update the firmware, not sure if that will make a difference.
I also noticed that compared to my printer, the price of toners is more expensive, from sticky ink, which is who I use, my Hl-3150CDW toner is £113 for the set of high capacity toners, for the Brother MFC-L3760CDW  it is around £196 for all 4.

The price per page is not a lot different due to the black toner having a high capacity than mine, but you need to look at that as well.

As I said, I get my toner from Stinky Ink, when need to replace the ink in my inkjet I will use them for that as well. Not sure if i will use compatible s for the inkjet.
Stinky ink toners are very good and they give you a good guarantee, they may cost a bit more than what you may get on amazon, but may be worth it.

Anyway, link

Just something for you to look at.

    • Owing to the nature of Windows feature enablement updates, it was distributed over Windows Update services as a complete system upgrade rather than as an ordinary cumulative update
    • Microsoft confirms Windows 11 26H2, urges IT admins to prepare for release by Usama Jawad Windows 11 typically follows an annual update cycle, but Microsoft recently broke that tradition a bit by releasing a "26H1" version in the first half of this year as a "scoped" build for select new silicon PCs only. This version was not available for customers using 24H2 and 25H2 builds, as Microsoft is busy preparing version 26H2 for them, confirmed officially for the first time. In a Windows IT Pro blog, Microsoft has urged IT admins to prepare for the upcoming release of Windows 11 version 26H2. The company has confirmed that this will be a small enablement package (eKB) that will simply light up certain disabled features that are already present in the operating system's code base. This means that the "refined" Windows update and deployment experience will be simpler and quicker, with minimal disruptions, as the feature update will simply toggle a few flags rather than performing a complete replacement. Microsoft has explained that this is all possible because the standard Windows 11 releases share the same servicing branch and hence, the same source code. However, this also means that Windows 11 26H1 users won't be able to upgrade to 26H2 as that is a different branch, but this is something we have known for a while now. Similar to previous annual feature updates, Windows 11 26H2 will offer the following support cycles: 24 months of support for Home, Pro, Pro EDU, and Pro for Workstations editions 36 months of support for Enterprise, Education, IoT Enterprise, and Enterprise Multi-session editions Microsoft has not confirmed a concrete release date for Windows 11 26H2, but noted that it is "coming soon". If we go by the ongoing release cadence, we can expect it to begin rolling out in early October 2026. As such, IT admins have been encouraged to begin validating Windows Insider releases in the Experimental Channel, plan rollout rings, and strategize the utilization of their existing deployment tools.
    • Windows 11 gets new audio improvements in the latest builds by Taras Buria Today's Experimental builds (26H1 and Future Platforms, formerly Canary) pack several audio-related improvements. If your device is enrolled in the Experimental Channel (26H1), you can download build 28120.2315, while those in the Future Platforms version have build 29613.1000 to try. Here is what is new in build 29613.1000: [Audio] Following up on our previous improvements, we’re making some more adjustments to Settings > System > Sounds based on your feedback. Namely, we’ve updated the “All sound devices” page so: You now have the ability to change default devices from this page. Each of the devices displayed on this page now has a little volume meter next to it to show if there is audio actively playing. We’ve adjusted the page design slightly so now you can filter whether you’re viewing input or output devices. We’ve added toggles so you can choose if you want to hide or show disabled, disconnected, and unplugged devices on this page. We’ve also updated the input and output audio properties page for devices in Settings to now include jack information for those that need it. And here is the changelog for build 28120.2315: This update includes a small number of minor bug fixes and improvements. [Accessibility] This update improves caption style responsiveness by redrawing captions immediately for caption style changes. If no current caption is visible, a sample caption string is displayed. [Audio] This update improves the reliability of the inbox HD Audio driver. You can find the official release notes for build 28120.2315 here and for build 29613.1000 here.
    • I agree with what I think you are saying, just not in the way you are saying it. Like any tool, the amount it represents your work is perorational to the effort you put into it. It is similar to why 2nd grade math students learning to add and subtract are not allowed to use calculators, but a high-school calculous student is. For the 2nd grader, that tool would completely replace the work they are doing, for the calculous student the same tool allows them to work far more effectively while in no way replacing their effort or knowable. If you spend 30 seconds writing a prompt, then the image that comes out is no more "yours" than if you found the same image with a Google Image search. However, many of these generative tools also support highly iterative processes that allow back and forth, and merging generated images with photos or human created images. I am sure you would agree that a human spending hours of time working on a project, even if AI was involved in the process, still reflects that human's work.
