mkol
Hello people, Hope all is well. I am looking for a new printer as my Epson WF-4630 is showing its age. I need to do a nozzle clean up every time I print something. Otherwise, it doesn't print the letters properly. I have about £400 to spend. Please can you suggest something I would like recommendation for Laser colour and inject printers. I am looking for a printer which has copy, scan, print and fax functions. Which one is the best one to buy and does not have too pricy ink. I am in UK so if you can provide me the link for your recommendations I can look up. Thank you. SnoopZ
Brother would be my go to for Laser based on how good they review, I've got a basic Mono and I could never go back to inkjet. Checkout the range and Google to price up the best, you can get something great for under £400, the prices are cheaper than this link. https://www.brother.co.uk/printers/laser-printers/colour-laser-printers?count=6&sort=&functions=copy&functions=fax&functions=print&functions=scan#Results +Eternal Tempest, goretsky, fintechfooty and 2 others 5 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1465825-new-printer-advise/#findComment-599053804 Share on other sites
tsupersonic
Do you print often? I had this conundrum and I've been printing a lot recently (kids). I ended up going with an Epson Ecotank that I picked up at Costco for $200 USD - came with full color ink tanks + black, and an extra black ink tank. It's printed over 400 pages over a year and it's not even used up quarter of any of the tanks. I was very hesitant to go with a tank based printer, but it's working great. The replacement ink is comparable to cartridges and cheaper than toner. They also come with fax, but mine doesn't have that capability (don't need it) I'd go laser if you print infrequently. Brother is reputable. Check Costco UK or other UK based retailers Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1465825-new-printer-advise/#findComment-599053809 Share on other sites
neoraptor
I have a Brother with tanks as well (as i was tired to do magic resets when filling up the epson printheads), works pretty well, we print rarely (documents, some coloring pages for the kids, tried some photos etc). For the price it is very nice, I was amazed how fast it prints, and given the volume of the prints + the possibility to do color stuff for me is a better fit than a laser jet. +Eternal Tempest 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1465825-new-printer-advise/#findComment-599053822 Share on other sites
mkol
We don't print that much. We print Kids School stuff and some docs sometimes. Not very often. We are not heavy users of printer. I also recently went for a Brother and haven't regretted it, I got the MFC-L3760CDW series which is a colour laserjet with copy/scan/fax! It was on sale on Amazon a couple of months ago but there's not much to pick between any of the colour units which all look the same other than printing speed and whether you want an automatic document feeder on the scanner. Michael Scrip
I love my Brother monochrome laser printer. It's great! I'll never go back to inkjet. I also know a business that uses multiple Brother all-in-one color lasers... they're great too. +Spark99 Subscriber² Posted April 29 Subscriber² Share Posted April 29 I install and setup printers all the time. My current advice is to get a Canon MegaTank like the PIXMA G4280. Brother makes excellent hardware but the software that comes with is not as good for scanning and other tasks. If you print just text and documents then one of the Brothers LED printers will do the job. I have a HL 3150CDW, it is getting on now, but still works great, no scanner, but you can get Brothers LED printers with Scanners. The only problem with Brother printers these days is the toner are chipped, so difficult to get third party, so I have been told. If you are doing photos then you do need an Inkjet. I used to be and still am a fan of Canon printers, if you go for Canon then look at the Megatank range. Last year I got myself a Epson ET-8550, fantastic printer, but pretty expensive, but maybe look at the lower price Inktank Epson printers. you pay more for the printer that have inktanks, but if you do a lot of printing, then they save money in the long run. You have to look at what you print and how often you print. But the accuracy of the colours are not there, or I can't seem to get them. Also remember that a lot of Brothers so-called Laser printers are not laser printers, but LEd printers. Reliability wise my Brother printer is great +Nik Louch 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1465825-new-printer-advise/#findComment-599054119 Share on other sites

PsYcHoKiLLa
I have a Canon Pixma TR4500, it was in storage for months when I was moving home and I thought it was gonna be cooked when I brought it back out but it was fine after it auto-cleaned the heads. Does Scan/Photocopy, Fax (if you even have a phone line anymore 😄) as well. Wireless or wired printing too. HP ink jets were a different kettle of fish, I knew a fair few people who have had HP ink jets over the years and most have failed within a couple of years or less. Saying that, my sister-in-law had a HP inkjet for years, used most days, never a problem. I don't think they are great for photos, again the best ones for photos are Canon or Epson and I don't mean the cheapo throw away types either. ad47uk
Since you are in the U.K, I would look at them from printerland https://www.printerland.co.uk/printers/brother/multifunction/laser/colour There are a few there, look at specs and price. LED printers more or less work the same as lasers, but uses LEDs under the lid instead of rotating mirrors and laser. So less moving parts. The rest is the same as a laser, they used to be cheaper, but not so much these days. WiltshireHam
We've had a Brother MFC-J6930DW for over a decade now, still prints perfectly. Print/Scan/Copy. It prints A3 too. Original pack of ink cartridges is about £55 for a pack of 4. Print quality is good and output is fast, it supports secure printing on Windows 11 24H2 onwards. As also been said not a problem if you only do a small amount of scanning. Auto double-sided scanning cost more, The one linked below cost around £451, so a bit more. But the one you linked to is a good price, considering my Brother printer only was around £250 i think when i got it around 7 years. The link below is for a higher model, that will scan both sides, but it depends if you want need that function. https://www.printerland.co.uk/product/brother-mfc-l8690cdw-compatible-black-toner-3-000-pages-/172145 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1465825-new-printer-advise/#findComment-599054381 Share on other sites

ad47uk
Maybe you should have a look at some reviews and see what other people think or maybe find a youtube video. My only issue with the printers are the toner cartridges, my printer as i said is getting on a bit now and is before the days that Brother decided to do what other companies do and chip the cartridges, to try and get you to buy their toner. I have had a look online and some people are saying don't update the firmware, not sure if that will make a difference. I also noticed that compared to my printer, the price of toners is more expensive, from sticky ink, which is who I use, my Hl-3150CDW toner is £113 for the set of high capacity toners, for the Brother MFC-L3760CDW it is around £196 for all 4. The price per page is not a lot different due to the black toner having a high capacity than mine, but you need to look at that as well. As I said, I get my toner from Stinky Ink, when need to replace the ink in my inkjet I will use them for that as well. Not sure if i will use compatible s for the inkjet. Stinky ink toners are very good and they give you a good guarantee, they may cost a bit more than what you may get on amazon, but may be worth it. Anyway, link https://www.stinkyinkshop.co.uk/ Just something for you to look at. mkol 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1465825-new-printer-advise/#findComment-599054475 Share on other sites
