Hi everyone,

I can't seem to delete a folder, no matter how much I try. Everytime I attempt to delete it, it tells me that access is denied. This folder was generated when I installed a hotfix.

I've tried modifying it's permissions and changing the read-only status (which just reasserts itself as soon as I apply it). This folder is on an NTFS partition.

Any clues?

Cheers,

Evan

Yep, I have a Pentium 4 2.4C with HT. However, I've rebooted many times and it still doesn't allow me to delete this folder.

This might help.

How do I delete an "undeletable" file?

Thanks to MS-MVP Kelly Theriot for this tip.

Open a Command Prompt window and leave it open. Close all open programs. Click Start, Run and enter TASKMGR.EXE Go to the Processes tab and End Process on Explorer.exe. Leave Task Manager open. Go back to the Command Prompt window and change to the directory the AVI (or other undeletable file) is located in. At the command prompt type DEL <filename> where <filename> is the file you wish to delete. Go back to Task Manager, click File, New Task and enter EXPLORER.EXE to restart the GUI shell. Close Task Manager.

Nope, didn't work. :((

Thanks for the tip though.

By the way, I suspect that this guide was created by someone who couldn't delete an AVI file because it was "stuck" in explorers AVI previewing. The problem with my folder is that I'm being denied access, not that I can't delete it because it's in use.

I'm gonna go reset and try the recovery console, maybe that'll work..
