DEBIT Card Problem

I have an "VISA ELECTRON" debit card which has an VISA ELECTRON logo on it. I am unable to do online shopping with it as it does not have an 3 digit pin number. Does that mean I cannot shop using this?

You need to get a proper VISA one, but you have to be 18+ to get one.

Apply at your bank for a Solo/Maestro card. Electron isn't really understood by most establishments .. unfortunately.

Obviously just something we have in the UK :D. You should be able to get a debit card other than Electron.

I had a Visa Electron, I couldnt do any online shopping with it, theres no sites that accept it (well if there was i dont know of any). On the back it says "For Electronic Use Only" basically means that it has to be swiped through a machine or used at a cash point etc.

i'm not sure. i have a mastercard debit card, so i assumed they were similar. i don't know much about the visa electron, so you should listen to the other members.

I have an electron and i have found 1 site that lets me use it... luckily its the one i use most and thats amazon.co.uk

I got into an argument over it at my bank because basically its ****e and i want a visa even without overdraft but they pretty much told me to **** off! :angry:

Yeah all an overdraft would be is if you go over u get charged loads, but an overdraft u dont get charged.

You can get Visa debit cards that have a 3 digit security code. Its just the Visa electron thats next to useless.

they take my mastercard debit. they function like credit cards, but the fees for merchants and banks differ, especially between signature and pin purchases.

Uhm, Paypal takes debit cards and it takes Visa Electron too. However to reply to the original question, my Electron (from Barclays) has the 3 digit code on the back printed on the signature strip.

Buuuut...It really is a piece of crap in general, some sites do take it (overclock.co.uk, amazon.co.uk, paypal, redstore.com) but most don't and those that do tend to be expensive.

Dont think of it as a cut down debit card but as an upgraded cash card, it can do a bit more that an ATM only card (but not much).
