wow 100 more 3dmarks. before i get excited, what does that mean in real games?

Not even an extra 1 FPS :) ... So as Trust says ... Nothing :)

I know I use benchmark progs myself, but they are not the be all and end all, real live benchmarks like, erm actual gaming, is how to tell if the drivers are any good :)

true indeed... i know and agree with this as well...

but like you said, with me there is some strange cosmic force that just propels me to run 3Dmark03 every-time i install a new driver... its like the damn app on first run hypnotized me into believing it actually means something...

Here is the ultimate tool kit who dont have them yet ;)

First the infamous Coolbits reg hack. With this registry entry you can ENABLE overclock options in ForceWare.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NVTweak]"CoolBits"=dword:00000003

After adding this to your registry, you'll gain access to Clock Frequencies tab where you can adjust GPU and memory speed :)

Second and the latest trick is for GLSL aka Open GL 2.0 support. By default Nvidia drivers do support up to Open GL 1.5.

But via our new kit item :) you can enable Open GL 2.0 support instantly. I think it's an experimental support right now but some demos that use new GLSL extensions working flawlessly without any problem. Also note that i'm not sure which nv cards handle this: i'm a fx5600 user and i assume at least 5600 and over suppport this.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\OpenGL][HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\OpenGL\Debug]

"ShaderObjects"=dword:00000001

after adding the registry data, you can check if Open GL 2.0 is really enabled via a small tool called Open GL Extension Viewer - http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/.

if you wanna test and play with some Open GL 2.0 stuff just surf to: http://esprit.campus.luth.se/~humus/

Before anyone starts whinging about some obscure hardware conflict, I'll post the important information from the driver release notes (I wish more people would read these)

Open Issues in Version 56.64

As with every released driver, version 56.64 of the Release 55 driver has open issues and enhancement requests associated with it. What follows is a list of issues that are either not fixed or not implemented in this version. Some problems listed may not have been thoroughly investigated and, in fact, may not be NVIDIA issues. Others will have workaround solutions.

? Windows XP/2000: Clone mode may be set for the GeForce FX 5600

although only one display is connected.

This setting causes a drop in the performance of 3D applications. The

workaround is to use the NVIDIA control panel to reset the system to

standard mode from clone mode.

? Windows XP, GeForce FX 5950 Ultra: Homeworld2 antialiased

performance is slow.

This is not an NVIDIA bug, but is a known issue with the application. A game

patch 1.1 is available at ftp://ftp.sierra.com/pub/sierra/homeworld2/

updates/homeworld2_update_en_10_11.exe

? Quadro NVS, Windows NT 4.0: NV settings on taskbar should not

include nView Display Mode > Single/Clone/Span if in Multiview.

A fix for this issue will be included in a future driver release.

? Windows XP: Performance and Quality page does not update

correctly.

A fix for this issue will be included in a future driver release.

? Windows XP, GeForce FX 5600: Enter key does not perform the

intended actions in the NVIDIA control panel.

A fix for this issue will be included in a future driver release.

? Quadro FX 1100, Windows XP: Mouse pointer is blurry when moved

to the right side of the LCD

A fix for this issue will be included in a future driver release.

? Windows XP, Quadro FX 3000, T221 Display: Windows MediaPlayer

becomes pink/green with two T221 monitors rotated.

A fix for this issue will be included in a future driver release.

? Windows XP: Double-clicked Outlook messages sometimes end up

underneath other windows.

A fix for this issue will be included in a future driver release.

? Quadro4 980XGL/Quadro FX1000, Windows 2000: Altair Engineering

HyperMesh6.0 has problems with model contour color and rubber

band operation.

A fix for this issue will be included in a future driver release.

? GeForce FX 5700,Windows XP: Various textures in Far Cry are not

rendering at 640x480.

A fix for this issue will be included in the next driver release.

? [TWIMTBP]GeForce FX 5950 Ultra,Windows XP: Fog does not

display correctly in the game Xpand Rally.

A fix for this issue will be included in the next driver release.

? [TWIMTBP]GeForce FX 5950 Ultra,Windows XP: Lighting does not

display correctly in the game Xpand Rally.

A fix for this issue will be included in the next driver release.

? [TWIMTBP]GeForce FX 5950 Ultra,Windows XP: Fogging effect is

not applied to distant trees in the game Far Cry.

A fix for this issue will be included in the next driver release.

? [TWIMTBP]GeForce FX, Windows ME/Windows XP: With 4x (or

greater) antialiasing enabled, the Options menu text in the

game Spellforce appears only when the mouse cursor hovers over it.

A fix for this issue will be included in the next driver release.

? Windows ME: CodeCult benchmark does not run properly.

This is not an NVIDIA bug.

? GeForce FX, Windows ME: Gunmetal Demo intro movie does

not display properly.

This is not an NVIDIA bug.

Issues Resolved in Version 56.64

Significant issues resolved in driver version 56.64 are listed below:

game after a party member death.

? All GeForce FX, Windows XP: Intermittently, Warcraft III videos are

not displayed properly on some systems.

? GeForce FX 5950 Ultra, Windows XP: nView Setup Wizard lacks 16-bit

color choice.

? Quadro NVS, Windows XP: After turning off Span-over-Span, the

display properties panel stops responding when selecting the Quadro

NVS page.

? Quadro NVS, Windows XP: Flight.exe OpenGL has stripes of bad

Ok, I installed and my 3DMark 2001 SE results are in.

A little tip for people: because of the variance that can be found by re-running a benchmark on the same machine more than once, I usually run the benchmark 3 times, and average the results...a little more precise in my opinion.

Hardware:

CPU: Athlon XP 1700+

RAM: 512MB PC133 SD-RAM

MOTHERBOARD: ECS K7S5A

OS: Windows XP Home Edition

GRAPHICS: Asus GeForce 4 Ti 4800 8x (running at 4x)

Score using 53.03 drivers: 8100

Score using 56.56 drivers: 8329

Score using 56.64 drivers: 8303

Seems bugger all difference between the 56.56 and 56.64 performance wise.

As for image quality, unfortunately I lost my image quality results for the 56.56 drivers so was forced to compare the 56.64 to the 53.03.

Again, the image rendered was 100% identical. :)

Not bad at all, no performance loss despite all the new features and no image degradation.

It earns my brand new feature.....

My big personal stamp of approval

    • This 4K webcam from Acer is now only $59.99 by Taras Buria Those looking for an affordable, high-resolution webcam from a reputable manufacturer can check out the latest deal from Acer, which puts its 4K webcam at a solid price. Thanks to a 14% discount, you can buy this all-metal 4K webcam from Acer for just $59.99. Despite the affordable price tag, the webcam has a pretty large 1/2" CMOS sensor manufactured by Sony. Apart from its size, it supports additional conveniences, such as high dynamic range and phase-detection autofocus (PDAF). Plus, the camera ensures you do not have to buy additional audio equipment, as it comes with two built-in high-sensitivity microphones, a built-in background noise filter, and the ability to pick up your voice from up to 2.5 meters away. Acer is not cheaping out on materials, and the webcam is enclosed in a more premium metal case, which is also good at heat dissipation (high-resolution cameras can get quite hot).
