What is HDTV-LOL format?

Question

What is HDTV-LOL

Last week I had posted for help on if Xvid format will work on VCD format. I got the answer I needed. Such as how Nero will convert it to Mpeg1 format, and then burn it as a VCD.

Well last night, I missed recording this week`s episode of the Practice, so I went to find it to download via Bit Torrent. There are 2 versions offered to download. Once being in Xvid format, which I know will work. But I try to avoid download Xvid if I can, since it does take 30 mins or so for Nero to convert. If possible, I try to find episodes of shows that I download, that are already in Mpeg1 format.

But the second format that this show was being offered as, to download, is HDTV-LOL. Now I know HDTV is (high definition Televsion), but what is the LOL extention mean? And what format is this? Is this Mpeg1 or in a VCD ready format for nero to burn? Or will it be converted by nero as well?

If it is, VCD capable or if nero can convert, then which of the two (Xvid or HDTV-LOL) will be a higher quality viewing.

Now I know the obvious comment will be, well HDTV is for people who have HDTV tv`s. I don`t. So I don't know what will happen if I try it. ie: If it will work. If it converts faster by Nero. Or no conversion at all like an Mpeg 1 would be.

Essentially more then anything, I want to know if it will first of all work, and if so, then if Nero needs to convert it etc. I`m always looking to save time. So if Nero doesn`t have to convert it, then I`ll know that HDTV is a format I can use to download for other shows, to then burn as VCD and save time to avoid Nero`s conversion , like it does for Xvid format.

I don't think the "LOL" has to do with anything, but the HDTV means it was captured from an HDTV source, which is in most cases even better than encoding directly from DVD. Something tagged with "HDTV" may even be encoded with Xvid. However, since Xvid and HDTV are much better than MPEG1, I wouldn't think it would matter much which one you used to encode to VCD, since in either case it's going to be about as good as MPEG1 can get.

*From what i've heard* "This is why one should mod an xbox and put Xbox Media Center on it and then watch those shows on your tv from your computer via eithernet...... and the HDTV-LOL quality is very good.... you can ususually fit 2 1 hour episodes on 1 cd" But thats just what i've heard

I wasn't aware that downloading TV episodes was illegal. Downloading music and software (games & apps)etc, yes that I understand . But with TV episodes I figure since I would have had the episodes on tape (VCR). What`s the difference? I missed it, thus I`m downloading from someone else who did record it on tape off the TV. So it`s legal for me to have it, if I had recorded it 1 hour sooner off the TV, but not if I download it 1 hour later from any p2p networks?

Someone may say that it`s because of the commercials , that you would get from recording it off the TV. But then I have comercial advance on my VCR , so I don't see the commercials anwway. hehe.

Here`s something I don`t get. If I download a TV episode that is HDTV format, I`m not really seeing it in HDTV. What I mean is, isn't there two factor's that make it HDTV? 1) The signal being sent by TV networks in HDTV and 2) an HDTV box to receive that signal. So the HDTV format that they are offereing, might have been captured off an HDTV signal, but it`s no longer HDTV is it?

It`s like those TV comercials that advertise TV`s. "Look at how great the image is on these TV`s" etc..is what they might say in the commercial. Well how am I supposed to see how good the TV is on the commcercial, when I`m limited to how good my TV is to begin with, to view that TV in the commcercial. Hehe. ;)

I wasn't aware that downloading TV episodes was illegal.

it is illigal to distribute copyrighted works to which you don't have permision.

this is no different than somebody recording season of some tv show and then going on a corner and selling it.

in this case you are not "selling" it, but still distributing it w/o permision of the owner.

and it is very different from "fair use" clause such as YOU personally recording it to vcr.

you can come up with as many excuses as you want, fact is, it is illigal to distributed copyrighted material w/o authorication of it's owner.

It is not a HDTV stream, it was just converted to Mpeg4 (XviD) from an HDTV source.

You dont have to distribute it to download it unless you use a torrent.

I believe HDTV is recorded in .TS format, its uncompressed and its hundreds of megs for a 5 minute segment.

There are HDTV players and I believe Zoom Player also plays these. They are very sharp and I guess if your monitor can handle it. The picture quality looks stunning.
