hope this helps

# The Deterministic Network Enhancer software accelerator that is included with the Starband 360 modem causes an error on a blue screen at startup.

Until a compatible version is released, do not use this internet accelerator. For more information about this software, visit the following Starband Web site:

I just noticed this in my LAN properties, and I have no idea if I need it, or if I should get rid of it.

I found the same thing on my PC. It's a driver that's used for windows CE / Pocket PC, handling Broadband load balancing, Quality of Service, and MANY other apps. There's a partial list on their websiste.

I think mine came from setting up a VPN connection with SonicWall software. Or could have been my HP IPAQ Pocket PC.

You said you were going to remove it -- Their website states, removing it without uninstalling it properly can cause network problems. Also says rootkit revealer incorrectly identifies some of their app as malware.

I found a miniport driver software as a freeware download.

With streaming applications for video, photo-sharing and bundled "security" from providers, all are trying to protect you from intrusion. It's a mess.

Further, anti-spyware bundled with most toolbars, Google, AOL, Yahoo +++ many don't play nicely in the sandbox together.

More is not always better.

Trying to run two Anti-Virus apps at the same time, usually causes many problems. Each thinks the other is a breach. <sigh>

If you removed it, have you had problems afterwards? Did any apps stop working?

Thanks, hope this helps.
