Final Fantasy XI Online (PC)

Recommended Posts

Okay we all love the final fantasy series, but since when do we have to pay 15 bucks a month to play em? I mean I have played ever FF game made up until this day with the exception of XI. So has anyone played it? Is it any good? How customizable are your characters? Is the online play good? Is it laggy? Comon lets here it. Would YOU pay 15 bucks a month for a video game?

Yeah, I prefer single player as well. If you've never played an MMORPG, you should probably try it out.. But if you've been an avid fan of Ragnarok, Runescape, or anything like that then you probably know the drawbacks of MMORPG already and you'll just get more of the same.

Not worth a cent. All you do in that game is level level level and be poor. The quest require levels. YOU CANNOT solo past level 10.

I went for over 72 hours with out being able to find a group.

Its hard as **** to make money.

Most japs players are asses.

I got my dark knight to level 23 and in order to do that i had to get a class to 30 b4 that. LAME LAME LMAE subjobs = waste of time.

****ty story.

No pvp.

I also had

Samurai/Paladin leveld a bit each to around 9.

I hated that game HATED THAT GAME and still do. Buy it and your a idiot.

sounds like u have a bad time sucks to be u

i have and play the game and i like it the control can be a little better

O and i soloed till 12 easy current lvl 35 warrior

Some of my friends play it, and they told me that if you can spare enough time to play it seriously... you'll be more than happy with your $15/month investment.

Spend lots of time on it and be happy or save your social life and give up after a month.

I'm a BIG FF fan, but I wouldn't spend $15/month on it (unless you understand japanese/french, since most of the players speak those languages).

I love FFXI.

Funny, I can.

I went for over 72 hours with out being able to find a group.

That's impossible. Heck, all I have to do is head over to a certain area and I get flooded with requests.

Its hard as **** to make money.

Not really. It just takes time.

Most japs players are asses.

That's not nice. I've played with a few Jap players and they are extremely nice.

No pvp.

Coming soon.

I'm in LOVE with this game. Since October 28th, it has taken over my life.

>>>Okay we all love the final fantasy series, but since when do we have to pay 15 bucks a month to play em?

You obviously don't know how much the servers cost. They have excellent service and support. I remember getting my character stuck. I called up a GM (game master). Within 5 minutes they moved my character. THey were very fast and friendly helping me out. They have a monthly matiency to make sure everything runs smooth. With the level of support and quality, it's worth it. They also do a great job keeping up with bugs, exploits, and hacks. IMO, A+ in the support section.

>>>How customizable are your characters?

If you liked FF5 with all the different jobs, you'l love it. They whole game is is cheating your very own special character. With sub (support) jobs you can customize your character beyond belief. Your sub job is half your main, and you get the abilities of both jobs. This allows for many different customizations. Oh ya, there are also 4 different races to choose from for even more customizing. Also with jobs, you can change it whenever your in your Mog House, or at a Nomad Moogle. So, you can have one character with many different jobs leveled up to try and mix up.

>>>Is the online play good? Is it laggy?

Working with other people is what makes this game what it is. Make friends, join a LinkShell, party with JP. The servers are in Japan, but I have no problems with lag. With all MMO games, there are times and places where a lot of people are hanging around. This will have a big impact on your FPS sometimes.

A little senerio about working with other people. You get weapon skills for each weapon type. Using these in succession, will result in a renki/skill chain. You have to time these our with the other meele. They you get a mage to magic burst off the renki, resulting in they're magic to do crazy damage. There is also hate control. Each player has to learn to let the tank keep hate. It's not an easy game, but is soooooo much fun.

>>>Comon lets here it. Would YOU pay 15 bucks a month for a video game?

It's $12.95 a month, $1 extra for each addition character, $1 extra for TetraMaster. IMO, FFXI is that damn good.

Worth every penny. Most MMO games are that much anyways.

>>>Not worth a cent. All you do in that game is level level level and be poor. The quest require levels. YOU CANNOT solo past level 10.

If you want to solo, play Beastmaster. Meele/WHM or RDM can solo pretty well too. FFXI is NOT a solo game. The best part of it is working with other people. Why would you play an online game and go solo???? *boogle*

>>>I went for over 72 hours with out being able to find a group.

Can't deal with competition? You can to basicly sell yourself. DRK is among the many other jobs that count as a damage dealier.

1. level up your subjob

2. have up to date equipment

3. you can start your own too

4. bring food

5. use the seach comments to advertise your tnl, skillchains, ect

6. carry equipment for your next levels

7. joining LS's REALLY help when trying to party

>>>Its hard as **** to make money.

No, it just takes time. Get your THF up to 15 for Treasure Hunter anf Gil Hunter. When your DRK gets to 30, sub THF. Then you can head out and kill tons of low level mobs for gil and item drops. It's not hard at all, but it does take time. Part of this game is learning to manage your money.

>>>Most japs players are asses.

Not from my experiences. They help me out all the time. If it wasn't for a high level JP, I woun;t have my AF weapon already. Use the auto translate, it's an awesome tool.

>>>I got my dark knight to level 23 and in order to do that i had to get a class to 30 b4 that. LAME LAME LMAE subjobs = waste of time.

Jobs are the whole point of the game. Don't want to level up your sub job? So at lv 30, you think having berserk for your DRK from the lv15 WAR sub is pointless? I find a +25% attack bonus very helpful. Sub THF and you can steal stuff. At lv23 fight the gobs in Delfutt's Tower and you can steal from them. 400 gil for each Silver Coin. At least 4k per stack.

>>>****ty story.

Not a big fan of the story. I usually never pay too much attention to it anyways.

>>>No pvp.

It's supposovly comming soon, but it's going to be very controlled. I'm not a fan of PVP myself.

>>>I also had

Samurai/Paladin leveld a bit each to around 9.

I would agree that lower levels are boring. It gets waay more exciting as you get higher. More sub job combination, abilities, more quests. Your job is also better shapped at higher levels.

>>>I hated that game HATED THAT GAME and still do. Buy it and your a idiot.

The 500,000+ subscribers with 1,000,000+ characters are all morons then?

You should probably do some research into Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPG) before getting into Final Fantasy XI.

People have been paying monthly fees for RPG games for many many years.

I would think, that you should not bother with FFXI, it is a mmorpg game set in a final fantasy universe, not really something someone who has zero knowledge or interest in mmorpg games would have a easy time getting into. These games require a lot of time and a large # of friends to progress in.

Do not play MMORPG's - especially one based on FF!!! FF "series" is the worst series ever, if you can even call it that. But that's a different story and I don't wanna start another argument.

Back on topic, MMORPG's are great when you are a kid with all the time in the world to play video games. Unfortunately, all of the MMORPG's are $13 or more per month now. For one, they take away your life (trust me, I lost 3 years to EverCrack) and your money (I went from open beta to one month after they switch from $9.95/month to $12.95/month). Waste of time and money. My recommendation is to do what I do now: get your online gaming need fullfilled for free... download EverQuest classic from Sony and play on an emulated server. Works great and has just as good a community as EQ live.

/rant off

the only game that I really like thats a MMORPG is Planetside...

PlanetSide is a MMOFPS, although you do get to level up your character. I played PS since the open beta. Stopped when FFXI came out, right before CoreCombat. The bugs, crappy framerate, and poor support were all poor in that game. PS was TONS of fun, but there were too many issues for me. If your still playing, I'm curious to know how it is now.

My experience with FFXI was fairly good..I had some fun really couldnt get to meet some of those "friends" the type that you start the game and end the game with online. IMO it should have been just called FF online so it wouldn't break the chain of the beloved series. If you want to try a fresh fantasy MMORPG Lineage II is about to go Open Beta so you could try it for almost a month for free when it does. I am loving it so far just sad they are wiping so soon after I got in. But hey those are the breaks of testing. I'd say a bunch about it but there is an NDA till Open Beta. For more info check www.lineage2.com or lineage.warcry.com

I have played both EverQuest and FFXI. In general MMORPGs are not bad. People make fun of them saying they are addicting and ruin your social life. I personaly disagree with this. I play the game for fun. I do not play it as my life depends on it, I don't let it take control of me. I know where the end of fantasy and where reality is.

As for FFXI...... FFXI has a very devoloped story. Not that I ever played a game for story solely. FFXI's graphics are pretty damn good considering they are arguably the best MMORPG graphics to date. I do find the control / menu system is a bit weird but I have played eq now for over 4+ years and have gotten used to the flexibility in the EQ Interface.

As with ANY game you start out broke, poor, beggar, humble nobody. You work your way up the food chain. Yes the "n00b" levels are slow and boring but they are there for a reason; to let you become familiar with the interface, your char, and interaction witht he environment. People who just want to start out at a high level and go from there... why bother? I have made some great friends at the lower levels.

Linkshells / Guilds do help mak grouping easier. As a member of different guilds / linkshells I have seen it easier to get a group. These groups are of people who share your same "game interests". If you like PVP (Player vs Player) then there are guilds for it. You have to activly seek out these groups. You need to interact with them. You do not have toplay your game 24/7/365 to get in one. just have to put forth some effort.

Paying for a game then paying a monthly fee may seem ridiculous to you but think about this for a minute. How many cheaters / hacks are there in Diablo 2? A Lot. How many are there in EQ? Not very many. I am not saying it happens but the cases and proliferation is a lto less. In Game support is also another HUGE benefit. If I have a problem it is resolved in less than 15 minutes. There are new zones and updates for EQ that you can get into. They add new features and items into the system. Paying 12.95 for a fun, clean, cheat free, and updated gam is a worthy investment.

Don't judge MMORPGs because you heard in the news some one killed themself, or a friend of a friend of a friend said their friend is a shut in. As with ANYTHING in life if you let it control you then you have a problem.

If anyone wants to talk to me please let me know.

I completly disagree with this guy. I absolutly love the game!

And as for most japanese players being asses, I haven't met a rude japanese player yet, and I group with them often.

IMO it's sooo worth the money. If you don't agree, heck, at least you'll have something to do on a rainy day. :pinch:

I played this game for five months.

OK, so I'm antisocial

the interface sucked

they wouldn't let you join right up with a friends server

it was WAY TOO FREAKING CUTESY

I hated this game for five months.

Class A waste of cash.

And before you ask, I am unemployed and have nothing better to do than complain. Plus I could at least MESSAGE my friend, whom I liked a lot and bought the game to play with in the first place. :(

edit:

I should mention you can solo past level 10 if you have certain classes (Warrior and Monk)

the japs weren't that bad except that you couldn't really seriously talk to them, leading to a lot of ignoring when encountering the other language (not really unfriendly, just distant)...and some time periods they were about all that was on the servers

The story was arright I guess but it's amazing how alone it makes you feel in a game with thousands of other players...

>>>the interface sucked

It's MUCH easier with a PS2 controller. You need to be able to use the digital and analog.

>>>they wouldn't let you join right up with a friends server

All you have to do is buy a World Pass. http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/gameplay/06.html

>>>I should mention you can solo past level 10 if you have certain classes (Warrior and Monk)

Well, you could get by soloing untill like 15, but it gets really hard after that. Beastmaster is the soloing class. Warrior can't deal enough damage and Monk doesn't have the defence to solo.

Party, party, party. The game is ment to be played with other people. Like I said earlier, why play an Online game and go solo???

Oh ya, just curious what level you got your jobs up to.

Taru White Mage level 40

And this guy is right on the money. The more friends you have the better... Especially higher level friends who help you with rank missions, quests, etc.

The one thing I dislike about the game, however, is with the new PS2 release, server problems, and lag, have gone up. Maybe they should do something about it. Like....make more.....

    • I use it by choice but only for specific tasks that I have forgotten and it's quicker to ask then spend time wasted finding a decent answer on Google or coding a certain language. I prefer to use it. I do think that as it gets integrated into everything, when we eventually fully rely on it, I'm talking new gens not older gens like me, that we won't think for ourselves, I mean we will become lazy thinkers, lazy logical answer to problem which will go badly. But if we don't become fully dependant, we might be OK but I don't think personally we are going to be OK, not for the newer generations. Unless they advance in that space to the next level of intelligence where it can work out its own problems and create ideas for itself.

It provides access to almost 50 privacy-related tweaks, most of them hidden or not easily accessible to the average computer users. Using a very simple interface, you decide how Windows 10/11 should respect your privacy by deciding which unwanted functions should be deactivated. Using ShutUp10 you can easily disable Windows Defender, turn off telemetry, disable peer-to-peer updates, turn off Wi-Fi Sense, disable automatic Windows updates, turn off and reset Cortana and more. ShutUp10 allows you to create a System Restore point before you apply any changes, so that you can revert your system at any time if you run into problems. O&O ShutUp10 is entirely free and does not have to be installed – it can be simply run directly and immediately on your PC. And it will not install or download retrospectively unwanted or unnecessary software, like so many other programs do these days! O&O ShutUp10 Free and Premium The latest version brings O&O ShutUp10 Premium, expanding the app’s long-standing privacy controls with automatic enforcement of user-defined settings. Instead of manually rechecking options after every Windows update, users can set their preferred privacy configuration once—or apply recommended settings in a single click—and the tool continuously monitors them in the background. If Windows 10 or 11 re-enables disabled features or introduces new data collection paths, Premium restores the chosen settings automatically without user intervention. The free version remains available and fully functional for manual adjustments, offering the same core privacy controls for Windows. However, the Premium tier is aimed at users who want long-term, hands-off protection, adding automatic reapplication after updates, ongoing monitoring, and optional notifications to ensure privacy settings remain consistent over time.
