I had the best dream ever--it may sound weird. I was in my garage and i could talk to my computer, which wasnt there. It was like the Star Trek computer and it would tell me everything. I could ask it anything, like whats the weather or what are my grades in school and where are my friends? it was so awesome. does anyone know of sophisticated voice recognition software?

Haha nice dream, voice recognition isn't all that great... although I must admit after large amounts of doing the training it does get pretty good. I'm not sure of any programs that can actually control the features of the OS but i could be wrong

OS X can do a little bi:p:p

There are things called speakable items, and they let you use your voice to control a specific function.

Safari is speech enabled and so are some other apps.

And actually, to address the original question, Microsoft will this year begin promoting their Speech SDK and more components for integration. It will happen, just give it time.
