Motorola SB4200 Surf Cable Modem Firmware?

Recommended Posts

I upgraded to 0.4.4.2, which was really needed to play AA (that thing would cut off my connection without it) so just follow the steps very carefully and it should work. * It may be best to download all things required and to print the instruction page out *

(I'm in an ex-attbi area, so not sure if it works for other areas)

Well with that current firmware it's known to cause the modem to lose the connection during heavy traffic to the modem, like a lot packets (or whatever it's called) hitting it at once.

AFAIK the SB5100 doesn't have this issue (and neither does the firmware for the SB4200 at 0.4.4.2 and higher)

Depends on what ISP you have, for me being in an ex-attbi area I could upgrade the firmware myself and I did to stop the dropping connection problem.

You could always try the link out I posted above (2nd post) and see if it that will work for you, but I upgraded mine after comcast told me they couldn't so I would call your ISP to see if they can before trying it.

Is a link I found, looks to have a lot of them to download.

No idea on how you can update different versions, I only tried it with 4.4.2 off that site, I suppose you could follow the same steps but switch the firmware with the latest (including changing all things pointed to 4.4.2 to the correct 4.4.5).

It still will be best to either double-check with your ISP or to call and make sure that there will be no problems upgrading the firmware, and make sure not to uncap your modem :p

/edit - also for the SB4200, there are no problems with the 4.4.2 firmware, it runs fine and doesn't disconnect me, so unless you just want the latest their is real no need for anything higher..

You can change the SB firmware if you want to. I currently am running:

Software Version: SB4200-FIBERWARE-V9F4

Hardware Version: 1

MIB Version: II

GUI Version: 1.0

VxWorks Version: 5.3

Though where and how you do it you'll have to figure out on your own. It can either cost money, or take time, depending on what firmware you have installed now.
