weired network problem

Hi,

I've had this problem for every distribution installed on my laptop!

Basically, I can browse web pages, download things, so to a great extent, my network works properly through

DHCP in this campus LAN.

However, I cannot download any upgrade package using any provided installer, upgrade program, or whatever, all of

them just keep connecting forever. One more thing is, I have to set up a proxy to get access to outside internet from

this freaky campus network, and I set it up in system configuration. but why those upgrade programs just couldn't

connect to the server?

Can anyone help me on this (it drives me crazy!!!) thank you.

its probably because the proxy is only setup to allow http access, not the other protocols, talk with the sysadmin over there see if he can help

Ya, kemical nailed it on the nose, it's either the proxy settings or an imposed firewall preventing you from doing it
