[NFL] NFL keeps replay, adds third challenge

Its horrible. They have video and they cant even get it right. I cannot tell you how many times the Ravens got screwed by the damn thing and I am not being bias because if you look at it, you will know im right.

I persoanlly think the NFL should have the booth review the play, not the officals on the field. Do that or toss the whole thing out.

i agree with you remote to an extent, yeah it screws a lot of would be calls... but on the other hand if you look at the flip side it can turn to be a favor for your team. :D

No no no...

Many times the ravens challenged plays where the ravens thought the call on the field was wrong. While seeing the replay, it showed the ravens should have gotten the call, however, even though the replay showed them being right, the play still stood..

Brian Billock has mad many statements after games about how bad the instant replay is.

I am not being bias because if you look at it, you will know im right.

ha! classic. "I'm not bias because I'm right". i've gotta remember that one.

fact is, you're no better off without the replay than you are with it.

If a bad call is made and it stands after the replay...oh well. same end result as having no replay at all.

If a bad call is made and it gets overturned during replay...that's a better end result than having no replay at all.

The calls obviously weren't bad enough if they didn't get overturned after a challenge.

or are the referee's just biased against the ravens?? or better yet, perhaps they're not biased because they're right...hmm.

I love the fact that the replay proves the refs can be wrong. I prefer my refs infallible, and any arguing to the contrary should resort in people sitting in the locker room, not "oh, let's all get together for tea and watch the play over again!"

i agree with you there. it's just a shame that reality has to get in the way of our dreams...

How about using one of those high-definition cameras that can detect whether a small part of the foot is touching the outside line so that the referee can rule that the person is out of bounds? I think that a small distance like that can decide the fate of the game?

Personally, I am happy that there is now a 3rd challenge but I would have preferred that a team got its 3rd challenge as a bonus for winning the first two. Normally, teams are NOT successful in winning both challenges even though Carolina proved it wrong. I feel that if you lose a challenge, it puts you on the guard and you would be more cautious abt using it the next time. IMHO, having a 3rd one gives cause for usage on a call that is not that important.

I think the NBA should institute a replay system.

Some ideas:

Only available in the fourth quarter

Each team gets two challenges, if you are correct you get charged with a twenty second timeout, if you are incorrect you are charged with a full time out.

The difficulty in adding replay to the NBA is that it's such a fast paced game, while the NFL is played at a somewhat slower pace.

However considering my basic ideas I think something could be worked out that would be best for everyone.

No, it's not. Both NFL and NBA games are fast-paced but the NFL has breaks until the QB throws the ball. He starts the process. In NBA, anyone can start it and it goes on until one team scores.

Why? "did he dunk it, or not?" "Gee, I dunno, but those 2 points are going to be crucial to the game, let's check it over"

someone hasn't been watching the ncaa tourney this year.

many games have been decided by a single basket.

i don't watch the nba so i don't know if it happens as often there, but 2 points are 2 points.

Yeah, that's the way the games are supposed to be decided, by final points at the end, whether it be 2 apart or 20.

Look, if there's a questionable call then you're supposedly to play with it. What happened to the idea that you don't lose games because of bad calls? Football I can kind of see it, every down is extremely important. But baseball, basketball, etc?

    • Browser vendors pen open letter to Microsoft saying "enough is enough" by Usama Jawad We have seen Microsoft resort to questionable tactics in the past to get more customers to use Edge, such as "bribing" people to use Edge, testing new behavior so that Edge loads automatically on startup every time, and pressuring OEMs to exclusively bundle Edge in Windows PCs. However, the company often receives pushback not only from customers but also from the Browser Choice Alliance (BCA). Now, the collective has penned an open letter to the Redmond tech firm to highlight its dissatisfaction with its practices. For those unaware, BCA is a coalition that touts several browser vendors as its members, including Google Chrome, Midori, Opera, Vivaldi, BrowserWorks, and Wavebox. Its latest open letter to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella emphasizes that "enough is enough" and that user choice on Windows should be respected. It claimed that the company is abusing its dominant position in the PC space to push customers to its first-party browser, even if they don't want to use it. To do this, it resorts to shady tactics, some of which we highlighted at the start of this piece. It says that Microsoft is making it very difficult for users to set their preferred browser across all touchpoints. This is problematic as PCs are becoming even more prevalent in the AI era, so user choice is being restricted across even more devices, further frustrating users (and competing browser vendors). As such, BCA has urged Microsoft to take the following actions to level the playing field: Allow browser suppliers to compete for preinstallation and default deals with Windows PC manufacturers End dark patterns targeted at users seeking to download and effectively use other browsers (including as system-level default) Bring back the ability for users to make switching default browsers simple and transparent with a “single click” change for all relevant file types and apps (including PDFs) Open all web links in the users’ selected system-level browser of choice Eliminate manipulative Microsoft-exclusive banners pushing Edge in Windows, including when users are searching for other browsers Stop using operating system updates to push users back to Edge Remove the restrictive configurations of existing S mode devices that block the usage of third-party browsers. It believes that all browsers should compete on merit, as this will drive innovation and healthy competition. Despite its strong wording and publication of the letter openly, it's unclear if Microsoft will pay any heed to the BCA and if this will result in any tangible downstream benefits. We'll likely find out in due time.
