In the middle of the screen is Putty, which is used to login to comps elsewhere such as linux. Yes he is running IRC, but like i said it's through another comp.

Where can I get those icons used on your dock, and what kind of media player is that, I assume it's a skinned videolan player, and if it is could you tell me where i would be able to get that skin?

It's a irc client for unix based os and working with cygwin. You can find it here : http://www.irssi.org
