For a few weeks now I've been losing sync on my DSL modem connection at odd times that seem to indicate some local external interference that occurs on some kind of schedule. I.e., it will suddenly go bad at precise times like 11:00pm to 12:00am, or 1:30am to 2:00am, or 4:00pm to 5:00pm, etc., and then be fine until the next hiccup. I would like to monitor my connection locally to see if I can identify the pattern. Does anyone know of any software that could create this sort of log for me? I'm running XP Pro, SP1, and using XP's PPPOE software and TCP/IP. The modem is a SpeedStream 5360-123. There's nothing going on that I know of in my place that could be doing this, but I'm on the 4th floor of an apartment building, so my cable may be picking up noise between my apartment and the network interface. Any thoughts? Thanks.

i think iv been having it all along. it seemed to go down during winter, i use adsl (bt yahoo) and i find its crap - download speeds rarely go beyond 10 kbp/s unless i fragment them. uploads are above the limit thats on my isps site though:) im guna move to nildram hopefully sometime soon.

Your DSL modem should have an internal IP that you can browse to.

All you would need to do is type that address in IE, and click 'logs' and you would be able to see any errors, and when and the cause etc.

look up your modem brand, and go to their website and look at the modem FAQ on the site, and see if it mentions an internal IP.

Good luck,

Brent.
