So What is the truth about the Devil's Own Version of XP. I remember originally it was thought to be fake because of the windows update on the link said corporate=false but that has been proven wrong and then some people believe that it is just XP pro with the PID number changed but I also noticed that while installing the files need to setup while setting up xp one of them is OEM something so I believe that it is just the OEM copy with the PID number changed. IS there any way to tell if you have the real devil's own copy and a patched one? How big is the file for the real devil's own copy? Thanks for the responses!

Devil's own is not really corporate... but actually it's almost identical.

Devil's Own is the evaluation copy of XP. They found out that it was the same as the corporate version and got it a new PID (from what I guess is the corp version) and then it worked.

That's basically the jist of it.

dude, that doesn't make any sense at all. Eval copies don't ask you for a VLK. Devils Own specifically asks for a VLK and all the files are the same except for the readme.

The difference between Corporate and retail professional are a few files. I can remember 2 of them off of the top of my head.

pidgen.dll (the file for PID's..the devils0wn release has the corporate pidgen.dll so you can use corporate CD keys)

oembios.bin (I don't know what this file is for)

There are 10 other different files between the 2. I will see if I can find my CD with the corpfiles package(it is used to replace the original files on the retail CD with the corporate files) and I'll list the other 10 files.

Just out of curiousity, I ran Devils Own on a machine here at work when I upgraded all of our machines to XP Pro.

Devils Own runs like a dream. And other than saving 3 min during registration and activation, there are no useable differences between it and a retail version except for one;

I am really impressed with Microsoft support for XP. I have called them several times with a range of bizarre questions, and they always have an answer.

Even during the RC period, Microsoft reps were telling me how to use the activation code from RC2 to install XP on multiple machines (they said I could use it on however many machines I liked) and they told me how to reset my my system clock in the registry to circumvent RC2 early expiration!

Microsoft! Can you believe it? The only key is to get support, you need a valid activation key...

sorry Devils Own.
