iTunes vs Winamp

I liked iTunes even before I got my iPod. I ditched Winamp a long time ago in favor of QCD, but that was until iTunes came out for Windows.

Winamp all the way.. ITunes hogs all system resources, and slows down ur comp majorly.. i used it for like 2 weeks it was good at first but it got really annoying.. so go with Winamp 5.0!! but above both is Windows Media Player ! and no its not becaus its made by microsoft.. lol

Why do you say that like it does that for everyone? I've been running it since it was released on Windows and it hasn't shown one bit of slowdown--and at the time it was on a P3 700.

i really like winamp but since i cant get my iTunes songs to play on it looks like im stuck with iTunes

To choose from just those options (I use Foobar 2000), I'd choose iTunes hands-down. iTunes has a very nice interface and, most important to me, it lets you tag your audio files from within the program. I don't know if Winamp has this feature as I haven't used it in a long time.

Foobar2000 > iTunes > Winamp

I use iTunes for its database management of songs... I used to use Winamp but got bored of having to browse folders on my harddrive and found searching with iTunes more productive and made me choose a greater selection of music. I've never liked Foobar2000 - I'm sure it's functional, but I want things to look good and be functional, and found iTunes to win on both accounts (for me personally).

hmmm - the above post is one of the reasons why i'd look to move to itunes. Winamp is nice, and its been browser 'o' choice for god knows how many years, but the way itunes manages playlists is great. I like the way you can see what you've played recently, your favorite stuff, album info - it just looks slick. Might give it another chance :)

You can do most of that in Winamp (except album info), the smart playlists are pretty decent.

I'd use foobar, but the complete lack of organization rules it out for me, I've got 200 odd CDs ripped to my hard drive, I can't be assed to sort them myself. I used Winamp for the longest time (since 1.something :laugh: ) but iTunes still has, IMO, the best organization. The downsides are plugin support, and limited formats, but it's designed to be a music jukebox, it does a damn good job of it. Winamp has moved to being more of an all encompassing media player, which I'm less interested in.

i used to use winamp. the instant apple let out itunes for windows, i got it. why?

i have an ipod. i hate mmjb. why use winamp and itunes?

i like not having to go all the way through windows to find a song.

instant searches on artist, titles, and album names.

integration with itms.

smart playlists.

about equal resource usage as winamp.

itunes visualizer.

burning cd's right in itunes.

itunes' aac encoder was found to be the best compared to many others... clicky

i use itunes, simply because i have an ipod and my library is nice and organized now. if i didnt use an ipod, it would be a 50/50 toss up.

I prefer iTunes all the way. I ditched when iTunes came out. And even then, I only used winamp because i messed up by encoding some of my music into wma. I preferred coolplayer then but it has no support for wma. I finally ditched all those albums altogether and got iTunes. I prefer it because I really like the organization of it. I have no need for a built in media player. That was one reason to ditch winamp. I prefer iTunes visualizations better because of the randomness. It's just more functional for my needs. I tried foobar, but just can't get to use it. And most every other mp3 player out there just doesn't serve my needs.
