I got a Gmail invite from Blogger, which I actively use. I think they invited either active users of the Blogger service, or members of Blogger that have been signed up for a certain minimum amount of time.

Gmail is accessible at http://gmail.google.com/ wherever you have access to the Internet via a PC, Linux, or Mac computer with IE 5.5 or above, Mozilla 1.4 or above, or Netscape 7.1 or above installed.

Please note that Gmail is not yet compatible with Safari. However, we are committed to making our product available to as many people as possible, and to supporting as many platforms as possible. In the meantime, Mac users can use the most recent versions of Mozilla or Mozilla Firefox.

Regardless of the browser used, you must have JavaScript and cookies enabled to use Gmail.

I got one, and though um, semi unethical methods, basically i stole some idiots account, and he had unused invites, thus I invited myself

hey google, I like gmail, but the security on it sucks, I hacked it in 13 minutes, that's like way faster then I have ever hacked any email service's site

yes, but extremely limited invites depending on unconfirmed conditions

rumor and speculation point to someone who has had a gmail account a few days, and has made some emails, nothing major

I currently have no invites, almost all users get 2 invites at a time, which they of course use up in no time, I have like 20 people just that I know that want gmail accountants

heck even though it sucks currently (many needed features not there), I already like it in current condition better then yahoo or hotmail

I believe when I got the invite, it didn't say I was a frequent user of blogger, but a frequent user of Google. I am of both, but ... well, I didn't read it all that well :D
