Slipstreaming Windows XP SP1

Recommended Posts

When I copy my cd content to the harddisk, the file Z:\VALUEADD\MSFT\USMT\ANSI\USMTDEF.INF always failes to be copied. I also can't open open it.

Anyone else got this problem. I made a *.nrg image of my xp cd, the tried to copy the file from the image with alcohol120%...same error again.

So what's the deal with this file. Do I need it necessarily for the setup or for Windows in general?

Maybe your cd is wrong???

and Neobond thanks for the guide, i think i will make a cd today :D

Thanks for the guide NeoBond .. is really good ...

I have a question ... is the same thing to SP2? I mean ... instead "integrating" SP1 file, change it for SP2 .. and continue with the same procedure? If it isnt the same ... why? what changes?

And another question, if I integrate for example the sasser patch in the same way ... Will be installed the patch with windows xp?

Thanks a lot for your time =)

Yeah, I'd like to know where you get the .bin file too, the guide seemed...lacking on that subject...although I'll only need to know once the SP2 version of the guide comes out after SP2 RTM.

Ummm oh yeah I found out, well the one i have is called Microsoft Corporation.img taken directly from the XP CD.

I've used it with XP SP2 and it works fine.

To get the Microsoft Corporation.img file i used iso buster

Just thought I'd add that there's a a really, really easy way to do a slipstream cd. All you need to do is use a program called nLite, search for it on Google. It's a tiny app and all you have to do is copy the windows CD to a folder on your HD, run nLite, point it to the folder and you can integrate an SP at the click of a single button. Give it a shot :)

hey, you guys should try nlite. it lets you slipstream any new service pack into an already winxp disc.

it also lets you cut out the crappy components chucked in with windows. Such as win messenger, win mediaplayer

even disk cleaner, games like solitare. heck a ****load of things. this program is a godsend. my winxp pro sp1 only now

weights about 260mb! this prog makes installtion easy and lets you set it up with no crap like putting in keys.

it's like slipstreaming xp, except you dont do the bull****. Enjoy guys, this program is called nlite. it was actually

Been reading thru the thread and saw that a number of people are asking about having apps install at the same time Windows does......it is possible, but its an involved process.

<< removed >> has put together a very detailed guide about building an Unattended XP Install. The CD or DVD that is built during this process not only installs XP but just about any app you wish at the same time.

Hope this helps........

Had no idea that I needed the Network Install. Thanks man. Should be done in a few minutes. I need to format my 'rents computer since it's all cluttered with useless crap from the past 2 years. Just wanna make an SP1 cd so we don't have to deal with all the updates.

    • Any decent ITSM will A) have a web form that allows a user to raise a ticket, if you're writing an email you can write a ticket. B) Monitor a mailbox and auto-generate tickets based on inbound mails for those users that really can't get their heads around the concept that if you have an issue you go to support.mycompany.com and fill in the box. From your description you're having users email the desk, and then having a human read each one and manually raise a ticket on behalf of the user.

    • I've never even heard of this browser before seeing this article. How does it differ from other browsers?
    • Fixing things? Have you ever tried linux? Everything works out of the box nowadays in most common hardware. This includes Wifi and Bluetooth. If anything, if they return back to windows is because they haven't found an equivalent program which often used on windows.
    • 18 months ago I bought the 4TB variant for $380 CDN. Now it is $1500 CDN [$949 US].
