Performance is on par and after 100 fps, I don't really care which delivers more, so I voted ATI because of correlated properties, i.e. less heat, cooling doesn't take away 1 PCI slot (all of which I actually use), lower power requirements. In addition Pro version trails 6800U only by a few percent in most games, sometime outperforms it, so I actually looking forward to that since it's $100 less, and almost the same performance.

NVIDIA has SM 3.0 going for them, but I don't think that will see implementation anytime soon. Both cards have great performance, so for me it's going to come down to other things such as actual card design. The ATI card is barely any larger than the 9800 series, if at all. It's a single slot card with only one molex connector required. This should make the card a great addition for SFF-PC fans. The only unfortunate thing is that I was looking forward to going back to NVIDIA's drivers. ATI has really been lacking once more in that department as of late.

I have been NVIDIA brand loyal for ever. Tried ATI once and just wasn't impressed. Kinda wish Voodoo was still around to give NVIDIA and ATI a run for their money but alas its pretty much a two horse race....

By the way, anyone know when either card will be hitting store shelves? Anyone taking pre-orders?

I prefere the nVidia Drivers also. The ATi Catalysts haven't really changed for a while now ;)

It doesn't really matter. Both cards are around the same level with todays games, it's all about what will be out tomorrow.

The only problem I have with the Catalysts right now is the Yz Dock bug and Alpha Blending in WA5 (They both do the same thing..when a window is over them they turn some funky color)

Until then, the new performance leader is ATi's Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition.

When it comes right down to it the X800Pro matches or beats the GeForce 6800Ultra in game performance and IQ. Compare the price, performance, and IQ of the ATI Radeon X800Pro with the GeForce 6800Ultra, and the X800Pro definitely stacks up as the better value than the 6800Ultra.

My vote goes to ATi, simply because theyve beaten nVidia in every which way

Good, we sensible ones need you to continue to purchase those inferior products.

It helps to keep the prices down on the our side. In other words, I sure hope there are many people who are easily taken as you by marketing rather that the fact that the ENTIRE Internet Journalist community have unanimously declared ATI the performance leader. Otherwise NVIDIA will go out of business and the VPU market will become a one trick pony. A little competition is good for the consumer, and as long as there are suckers out there there will be NVIDIA in business. Because for the last three product cycles NVIDIA has undoubtedly lost the performance race, yet some consumers continue to purchase their products.

May I take a moment here to solute you suckers who have been supporting NVIDIA? I hope you continue to support them even though their products are inferior.:laugh:gh:

oh god, we have just started a new era in flame wwars. let teh 7 page debate begin. god help us all.

I just want to see WHERE the NVIDIA "fans" are getting their data!!! EVERY internet journalist has declared ATI the performance leader. Show me ONE review that concludes that NVIDIA is the leader in games the we have TODAY. Who cares about SM 3.0 when all of the games we will be playing for the next several months ARE NOT SM 3.0?

I offer you an analogy that I have offered here before:

It's great to hear about a beautiful woman but bedding her is an entirely different story.

A good marketing team is one that truly believes that their product is superior. It appears to me (I don't know about you) that Nvidia believes that their product will be superior in future games. That's just like a woman telling me that she looks okay today, but after her nosejob and breast augmentation she'll be even better.

Nvidia is the okay looking girl in this analogy, okay? They are trying to market their product for tommorrow TODAY, when developers are JUST BEGINNING to exploit the feature set available in SM 2.0! And another thing, if you haven't noticed, DX 9.0C is STILL IN BETA! Do you know how long it takes MICROSOFT to release a product out of BETA? Apparently not! It will take at least two product cycles for the SM 3.0 to infiltrate! By then ATI COULD have a better solution than NVIDIA. But today ATI is the undisputed leader, unless YOU can show me evidence otherwise!!!

my monitor for one is 17", doesn't do 1600x1200 which was mostly what i saw benchmarks being tested at w/ high end settings and full AA/ AF

2nd, my vsync is always on, capping my fps at a super smooth ass 85fps.

3rd.. every benchmark i saw at 1024x768 with the 6800 ultra and AA/AF settigns was 100+... and even if it were lower.. my fps cap at 85 anyway...

so which ever is faster at higher reses mean nothing to me, im gonna get nvidia cause of ps3.0, and put my 550W psu to work.

jeeze!!!!!! Thats Slang for male semen! There coule be kids reading this!

The correct spelling is ... Geeze! ...

i believe the slang fothati> is another word, but i've always thought geeze was jeeze, geeze..

    • On the one hand, it shouldn't be difficult. You buy a computer, you decide what OS you want, which browser etc. Simple enough. But that's the techie side of things. My sister, my mother, wouldn't bother with such a thought. And I'm pretty sure that if you presented a window asking them what to pick they would say, "I don't care! I just want to access my Email!"

    • Anyone who expects MS to play fair is a complete idiot.
    • Everyone behaves like Internet Explorer just never happened and Edge is whole new thing all while Microsoft is pulling the exact same ###### it did back then. Sigh.
