i just want to say i have pulled the real LH theme files from 4051 , 4053, and 4074, and they do not... repeat DO NOT work in windows XP. i am not a professor or a professional w/e person. but i have done this through Virtual PC and copied well transfered the files to my own HD and thinking it would work and no it does not... so for those people who have been staying they are fake. yes they are. a reason why the real lh theme files wont work cuz xp and longhorn are different versions. thank you for ur time reading this and thx for fake themes. oh and one more thing that will back me up is i am using the patched uxtheme.dll.

WindowsX, I don't know how you can do this! lou_dude888 is distributing a package of your work. He didn't even ask permission to do it! I can maybe understand no legal actions since this work is mostly from MS. But respect must be given for unofficial work, and therefore credits are due. Trying to give him respect when he doesn't respect you back is crazy!

People, why so nasty to Lou? This person obviously really thought these were authentic Longhorn themes, and didn't claim to have created them himself, so why the cruelty?

Sure, Lou's acting a bit stubborn on the issue, but you don't all have to be jerks about it. Show this person a little decency, as Lou's obviously been misled as to where the themes came from.

hahah. everyone on that forum loves him. and he's playing the victim, saying how cruel we are here.

and windows x, thanks for putting out such quality work. keep it up!

Well, Lou might have been mistaken, but the majority of posts on here aren't exactly courteous, immature is more accurate. As Cerebral said, props to Windows X for being the gentleman.

Cerebral: We're not intentionally trying to be rude/mean/nasty to Lou. If he genuinely believed they were authentic Longhorn themes, that is okay. But preaching on and on about how they are authentic and his Innovative award this and that really doesn't cut it. Especially when there is substantial evidence or facts disproving his claim. If he keeps sending false information, there will be hundreds of misled and misinformed sheep running amok. That is not what we want. Lou also has to realize people make mistakes! It's human nature. But going to another forum and bitching about how Neowin people are ###### especially when he is incorrect doesn't help anyone.

Just trying to clarify the situation, not trying to start wars.

Over on Aqua-Soft (that "other forum"), we've already clarified and settled the matter. No insults or mocking was necessary.

Sorry. I just talked to him. Dr. K had Jim remove Longhorn from his computer, to use on another, and so since then, Jimmy has emulated Longhorn, using these themes. Honest to God. My appologies to go Neowin, Aqua-Soft, and personally Windows X.

Again I appologize.

Yaaa.... Lou, he's just 15 years old (Although I'm 17 :D) But he didn't do something too bad at all. It's just misunderstanding. I think it would be OK if he accepted in it. But he didn't, still dumb and never know about Longhorn at all. However, he believed in my works with faith that makes he blinds from the truth. This guy is poor that he has been cheated by his friend about lying. But it's too late to open his eyes.....

There's one thing I got from this topic. I've just realized that my themes are so coooool! (Never know about it before because only few person replied my post)

 Any experienced fool knows Real Longhorn themes wont work on xp.Look at the tool bar in LH,notice a difference? Doh!

Sure it a msstyle, but not the same as xp.

I have all the copies of LH alphas right here,so I know first hand.Tried it when slate first came out.

    • Hello, Christian Maas' XVI32 is a nice (and very small) hex editor. Speaking of hex editors, many years ago a colleague and I who both worked at Tribal Voice managed to edit a copy of the company's PowWow instant messaging client to make it behave better now that all of its lookup servers and other server-side tech was gone.  The program didn't support NAT (RFC-3022 was introduced in January 2001, the same time Tribal Voice was shuttered), but it still worked okay if you manually set up port-forwarding on your router.  The server at http://powwow.jazy.net/ hosts a copy (usual warnings about downloading and running untrusted code from random internet servers apply). I occasionally use some tools like Funduc Software's Search and Replace and Application Mover when I need to make mass-edits to text-based files or move programs with a hard-coded installation directories, respectively.  When I need to figure out the exact LCD panel inside of a laptop, EnTech Taiwan's Monitor Asset Manager is my go-to tool for that purpose. JD Design's website (now hosted on github.io) has a number of interesting freeware and shareware utilities.  I used to use their TouchPro utility to set the file timestamps on software I was mastering to match its version number (e.g., version 3.00 of a program had all of its files dates set to 3:00AM, and so forth). Karenware has a number of interesting freeware utilities, too. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
    • I still use HexChat! Not really as ancient as the 1994 AutoCAD above my post, but I have never found anything better to replace it. Yes we still operate an IRC server https://www.neowin.net/irc/ 😛
    • At work we still have a couple of people that use a version of AutoCAD LT purchased in 1994. This predates Windows 95 and works fine on versions of Windows up to XP. Its long since run in an locked down isolated XP VM, accessible via RDP. I did install LibreCAD for them, however they said it was just too different to get to grips with. In all fairness one of them is now 75 and the other is almost 60.
    • On my music making (non internet) PC Sony Acid Pro 7.0 Adobe Audition 2015 Korg Legacy Collection Windows 7 SP1
    • Anyway to download these versions without being on the Experimental builds?
