I was a little worried that no one would like it.. guess I had been working on it too long because at first it looked really cool, but by the time I released it it was looking pretty dull to me lol.  Glad everyone seems to like it though.

Yes that is desktop sidebar from desktopsidebar.com .. and I will be updating that "Aero" skin probably on and off for awhile as the one I have up there now was thrown together really quickly.  So if you downloaded it already, check back for updates soon!

buzz99 :  I think thats happening with your start button because I set it to show the true size of the image file that I ripped out of longhorn rather than stretch it.  I'm not sure really, if you know how to mod you could just go in with stylebuilder and adjust the start button settings until you get it to show up normal on your version.  I dont have a french version of XP to try it on to fix up for you.  Sorry about that

Thanks for mirroring those files SioPao  :D

MonkeyClaw: I dont use trillian, so I dont really know a thing about skinning it.. this might be a good time for you to learn skinning, so how would YOU like to do a skin to match this for trillian? lol  :p

First you don't have to be sorry. I managed to resize the bitmap to fit my needs. Your work is awsome.

Believe me you don't have to apologize. I gave up long ago on "aero styles" but you made me come back.

If anyone interested I can post the modified "D?marrer" button.

Great work again m8 !!!

nice, hate the taskbar though. TBH, i dont know what you could do to fix it. sorry for the lack of constuctive critisism but its just ugly. i love thet rest of the theme though, best lh theme yet.

Besides the caption bar buttons, the taskbar was one of the hardest parts of the theme to look right.. I decided that since this was supposed to be somewhat of a replica of the PDC demo, it had to be one that would look right when transparency was added since the one in the demo had a transparent taskbar. The problem is that that taskbar was made with a specific glass look made for a transparency. It's supposed to have at least a little transparency to it. So it's solid color isn't really what its meant to look like. I had a plain white one that would look good as a solid color but when you made it transparent it would just look like it was fading, not really any glass reflection effect. Problem lies in the fact that a lot of people aren't going to be using or want a transparent taskbar.. it was either that or the white one and I didn't think the glass one looked too bad as a solid taskbar even though it wasn't meant to be, so I went with that one. But, if enough people want it changed I could always put the other one in there because after all, its still not final yet. :)

I *love* the taskbar, the windows tho they are kinda bright, any chance you can make that a little darker?

Here's what mine looks like, the theme and desktop go perfect, just the windows seem a tad bright i dont know why.

Meh.

Why don't they just make a stable OS without so many vulnerabilities instead of worrying about the damn visuals.

lol, what a stupid statement. I cant believe people are STILL making lame statements like this!!! it's laughable. XP is stable for me, it never crashes. I've never been hacked, and as a result of the recent work by Microsoft to actively tighten security, i'd be willing to bet that XP is more secure than linux at the moment...

besides, if as many people had linux as they do XP, i think you'd find there were a lot more holes in linux than are currently exposed now (this irrelevant as that'll never happen lol)

lol, nice nice, but he could of asked to use my pdc "black" buttons as he calls that i made and he modified :p lol or even giving me a small credit in the read me would of been enf :) anyways its a nice theme, but mine will be better muhahahahahahahahaah :p lol maybe who knows which will be better, thats for neowin to decide :p

can you post a link to yours? ;)

Smartbar XP is another sidebar application that IMHO is much better than Desktop Sidebar. There is also a very convincing longhorn slate theme with it by TheGent, which gets the analogue clock and colors spot on. Beta 4.9 is expected in the next few days and will have many improvements in it. Here is my desktop with it working... http://screenshots.haque.net/screenshots/v...nshot-14706.jpg

That longhorn prototype is where I got them from, the same place you seem to have gotten the ones you're using that you're trying to say that you "made" and now want credit for.

lets take a look at "yours":

Thats the ones you "made" and want credit for, right? lol Grow up kid. Now run back to your pretend photoshopped visual style and take your 6 yr old "oh my little theme will be better than yours yay!" attitude with ya ;))

ok, so i tried smartbarxp. in my opinion, its not as good as desktop sidebar, although it has the features i'm looking for that arent yet in desktop sidebar, so now i'm totally ****ed off!! haha

reasons i dont like:

1. doesnt look as good. integration isnt as good. i.e. when the weather pane expands out, it corrupts the desktop beneath it.

2. Messenger integration pane is damn ugly, it doesnt use the skin of the bar.

3. Dodgy flashing refresh when other things are happening on screen.

4. Transparency is a bit crap. again, flashing going on when other apps are in focus.

reasons i do:

1. the running applications list can be added to the bar as a pane, so, the start bar can be hidden completely now.

2. easy addition of shutdown/restart buttons

3.Start button can be added to the bar.

4. System tray icons can be added

so, i'm stickin with desktop sidebar i think until either one of the products can offer the features of the other.

Plus you cant use the AeroDS skin with smartbar, which means i dont get that gorgeous clock :D

lol, you know whats funny... that i was joking when I said my theme will be better than his, and i even siad it will be up for neowin members to decide which theme is better, read the whole post next time :p, plus its not photoshoped, i just added sometranspaency in one dc, and another sc was 80% photoshoped, and i adminited it... 2 posts down from the first post :p plus i have some beta testers who have the file, and i said the theme, the first public beta will be end of this week (may 21st friday) so check your facts, its real, its not vapor ware, and go trool elsewhere, anyways, since i had to flame him :p, i Gotta say good job on the theme! and keep working on it, if you want some of the "glass" aero images that i made, you can have them (an i am not talking about the buttons you idiot :p ), Please grow up, i have nothing against your theme, and learn to reconized sarcasim as thats what my post ubove has most of :)

Well if that was supposed to be a flame then you're even more of a dumbass than you've already made yourself out to be. You came into this thread running your mouth saying how you deserved credit for buttons that you had nothing to do with at all, and now that I've proven you to be a complete joke you try to say you were just being sarcastic. And I'm the one that needs to grow up? LOL. Since you're obviously some 13 year old kid, I'll spare you this time. This thread has nothing to do with you or your little cheap photoshopped theme, so go run back to that one and stop flooding this one with your stupidity. This is a post where I posted a Longhorn VS that I wanted to share with everyone here while I try to perfect it, not a post for you to come to try to start a theme war with an 80% photoshopped theme. What, was the wallpaper the 20% that wasnt photoshopped? LOL. This one is the real deal so go ahead and get over it kid. And no, I don't need any of your "glass aero" images as I'm trying to keep this theme professional and halfway decent looking. :)

    • I am not a US citizen nor a Trump fan. Respect to both left and right. But I will, for the sake of fun, predict something for my own. There will come a day when the US and China will collide like titans ( over Taiwan or anything else ). Then, on that day, some people in this comment section will realize how good an idea it was to become independent in areas like that. ( Or atleast try )
    • Microsoft Edge gets tons of security features, including AI model that can see your screen by Usama Jawad Microsoft Edge may not be the most popular browser out there, but it does receive quite frequent updates that sometimes bring surprising new features and axe others that are not as popular. Now, Microsoft has detailed some of the new security enhancements that it has introduced in Edge for Business, typically used by commercial customers. Microsoft has emphasized that security features are baked into Edge for Business and offer native integration with security and governance tools like Defender and Purview. Browser sessions are governed by default on managed devices but can also be governed through dedicated work profiles on unmanaged devices. An important aspect in this area is controlling the use of shadow AI. We have talked about this before, but it essentially restricts employees from using unsanctioned AI apps through data loss prevention (DLP) policies, with Edge redirecting them to trusted AI services like Microsoft 365 Copilot. This feature, available as a pay-as-you-go (PAYG) license, ensures that confidential data never exits AI boundaries set by your organization in Purview. Additionally, Microsoft also has strong DLP policies for contractors. Contractors leveraging a Entra ID-joined work profile provisioned by their contracting company on a device managed by their actual employer can be restricted from downloading files locally. In such scenarios, the file is saved on the contracting firm's OneDrive rather than being downloaded locally. Another useful Edge security feature disallows copying and pasting from unmanaged locations and apps. Similarly, DLP policies can be configured at a granular level to restrict screenshots or downloading of files from certain locations. In the same vein, IT admins can block the installation of extensions, hosted apps, themes and scripts, and control if users can install extensions from external locations. They can also enable the installation of specific extensions and allow users to request access to certain extensions, so that they can be managed on a case-by-case basis. Finally, Edge for Business now has an on-device AI model that uses computer vision to see what's on your screen and block potentially malicious content immediately. This does not rely on site reputation, as it simply monitors what is being displayed on your screen, which means that it is effective against malicious content that takes over your screen and employs scareware tactics. Since this is an on-device AI model, it does use your system's resources, so it's enabled by default only on devices with at least 2GB of RAM and four CPU cores. You can find more details in the Microsoft Mechanics video here.

    • Linux 7.2's first release candidate gets off to a good start by Paul Hill Credit: Larry Ewing It has been a few weeks since the release of Linux 7.1, and in that time, the Linux 7.2 merge window has been open, where developers can submit their features and patches ready for the upcoming release. That window is now shut, and the release candidate phase has begun so that new features can be tested and further fixes applied. According to the founder of Linux, Linus Torvalds, this week’s release candidate looks “reasonably normal”. Although we are super early in the release candidates, this is a good sign as it makes it more likely that an eighth release candidate will not be needed. Torvalds even mentioned that the update’s stats are only larger than they really are because there was another AMD header drop with a third of the patch just being AMD GPU register definitions, which aren’t big changes but make the code contributed look larger overall. In addition to this, he noted that just over half the patch is drivers, even when excluding the AMD register dump. The rest of the changes are spread out over architecture updates, tooling, documentation, and core kernel updates. In the next week, Torvalds says that he will be chilling out, taking the week “mostly off”. Despite this, he will be reading emails and keeping up with things, so if he is slow responding, now you know why. He said he is hoping for a calm week, but we will just have to see if the second release candidate is actually like that. We should expect seven or eight release candidates before Linux 7.2 is released, so expect it around the end of August. If you missed it a few weeks ago, be sure to check out our coverage of Linux 7.1's release.
