My Personal Beef with TNT & the NBA

Recommended Posts

Okay I don't know who makes this call, wether it is TNT or the NBA itself, but I got a bone to pick with something I think is screwed up, and although others may think it is nothing, hear me out before you make your judgment.

TNT was covering the Nets-Pistons Game 6 last night, which was played at the Nets home court arena: Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New jersey.

As TNT always does when covering a playoff game, while they are showing some kind of stats or a graphic for another game or saying who their sponsors are (it happens various times throughout a game), in the background they always have a live action shot of going down the streets or sidewalks from the City they are playing in, or at least a nearby neighboring city. For example when the New Orleans Hornets were being covered playing at home the shot was always live from Bourbon Street, made famous by Mardi Gras, in New Orleans.

So when they do this 'live action background city shot" with the Nets games, what do they show? Shots of New York City streets!!! Nothing at all to do with the NJ nets!!! Not even the same state!!!! I mean granted, there is nothing to show in East Rutherford except the Turnpike, Factories & Swamps (hence why the Net's are moving to Brooklyn it is just a bad location) but there are still plenty of cities like Newark, and even more viable Hoboken or Jersey City, which are all right by the Arena. Instead TNT decides "hey lets just show streets of New York City instead."

To me not only is this a slap in the face to NJ, but it also gives people watching the games who know this live action shot is usually always the city or nearby city they are playing in, a false impression that they are perhaps seeing the streets of New Jersey. This all around is just wrong.

So to TNT I say, if you do this with absolutely everyother home team when you cover a game, then be consistent. DONT DIS NJ LIKE THAT

by the way i know this is really not 'news' or anything like that, but i did have to get it off of my chest so thanks for bearing with me... now on to the NBA or TNT forums to see if i can raise hell there :D

thats your beef with TNT?

Mine is Bill Walton.....man i want to punch him in the brain

yep, being born and bred in NJ that is indeed my beef...

and i hear you about bill walton, i used to hate him with a passion... but actually once you get past how annoying his voice is, i do think sometimes he not only says some pretty funny stuff but even once in awhile he actually says some things that make sense too...

tnt sucks man. so does bill walton....heh, i have is autograph though.

good luck getting something changed :p

well i went on the TNT forums to rant as well, and there were a total of 6 posts under NBA and not one of them even had a reply, so I think my beef is going to go unnoticed. :D

and sjiggag23, yes the one shot was from the banks of NJ, and that is cool I can totally live with that as it shows how we do have an awesome view of the city, but they actually kept showing a shot where it looked like they were either going down Broadway or Park Ave alot as well, so that was definitely in the heart of Manhattan.

It really is just one of those small things in life that goes by unnoticed, but it does drive a NJ born and bred guy like me crazy. believe me I know it is silly, but I was watching the game with 3 friends and one when of them pointed it out we all kept going on and on about how wrong it was...LOL

Charlene "Charly" Elizabeth Baltimore: Easy, sport. I got myself out of Beirut once, I think I can get out of New Jersey.

Mitch Henessey: Yeah, well don't be so sure. Others have tried and failed. The entire population, in fact.

    • The consumer ESU is ending in 4 months. LTSC isn't now, never has been, and never will be for consumer use, it is for OT usage - plant machinery, medical devices, manufacturing equipment etc. LTSC requires a Microsoft EA. You can't legally obtain LTSC to run on your PC at home.
    • Hmm actually looks decently interesting!
    • Being on GitHub doesn't make something safe. Like any unofficial scripts to do x or y this caters to people with just enough knowledge to be dangerous. If you want to do what this does, and you actually know what you're doing then write your own script (or maybe just add the reg keys yourself) if you don't have the ability to read and understand what a script is doing, and especially don't run it with elevated privileges. Or in this case just use an MSA, sign up the normal route, and stop trying to push water up hill
