Neowin Toolbar?

Question

Recommended Posts

Anormal: Yep non working at the moment as I am still working on them :)

timdorr: Basicly I'm working from an example toolbar that I programmed for test at work but if you want I can email you the basic code (it only works in delphi :D).

Get frustrated m8 I work with a bunch of PC techs

If you need info about creating the toolbars you can find a lot of info on the Microsoft MSDN web site.

BeeJay: Thanks for posting the link for me (Couldn't be bothered at 2 in the morning :))

Replies to ideas:

1. Sorry wont remove the text labels for the buttons (Looks crap) but can shorten them a bit.

2. I can get rid of the "Neowin.net" Label on the left but then again it looks a bit crap so replace with a logo?? so something else.

3. Link to Neowin news page has been added - Thanks.

4. I will try to do a "Customize" thing but no promises but it may be a seperate program to run as trying to hook into the IE menus is a pain - Let me know.

5. Look has changed again due to requests.

Cheers

this is the original thread which was created awhile back about people wanting a neowin toolbar. https://www.neowin.net/bboard/showthread.ph...=Neowin+Toolbar

It has some links in it to the msdn articles which tell you how to create a toolbar for IE.

I really hope this is of some help to u's as i would really really like to see a neowin toolbar....

That toolbar looks very cool. One thing though: you said that you had included the link to the news page, but when I use the setup.exe from one of your posts before, it doesn't show up..

Again I appreciate your efforts,

Thekk

did u close out of IE and then go to View > Toolbars > Neowin.net?

and then unlock the toolbars from View > Toolbars > Lock Toolbars in necessary

is that waht u were talkin about?

A new beta version should be uploaded shortly as I'm finishing up testing the Post A Reply button which seems to work :D

Changes since the last version:

1. New visual style (Had complains about the last one :( )

2. Now has a Neowin News button.

3. New Thead works to a degree(May act screwie so let me know what you did for this to happen).

4. Post a Reply seems to be working but until it gets a hammering I wont know for certain.

5. Still no Search query :(

Do people want to keep the Neowin.Net text on the left or not??

Cheers.

I seem to have found a bug (it's repeated numerous times). When I'm browsing a site other than Neowin and it tries to open a new window, I get an error dialog with the word "Sysfader" as the first word of the title, then closes IE. Anyone else getting this?

[edit]

BTW, this only happens when the Neowin toolbar is active. When I disable it, I never get the error.

PiMPiN: The only real bug I've not been able too track down yet.

What version of windows and Ie are you running and whats the version of the toolbar do you have??

I know this one is going to be a pain in the rear end as the thing is so far installed on over 300 boxes and only 6 reports so far :(

Cheers.

XP Pro, IE6, beta .22

I was getting the error on both versions of the toolbar though.

I'm also working on a function or two to help you with your search problem.

Incidently, anyone else who gets this error running CursorXP or any other skinning engine other than default XP styles by any chance? I noticed that when I did get the error, my mouse pointer wnet back to its default. Could be a conflict? Picture of the error provided.

Edit:: Ok have uploaded the new version of this so can people give it a go and report any problems with it

get it from neowin.exe

Cheers.

I'm using the newest one and so far no bugs found. Congrats! I'm also almost finished of a plugin function to search the forums, albeit there's no options (it just searches all the forums for the entered query), but it's just about done. I've got everything working in a temp Toolbar for the search, the only thing that is limiting it right now is the fact that vBulletin generates a "Search ID" that I can't duplicate. It seems to work fine thus far though using one set number, although I don't know if there will be any drawbacks for this. Gonna check with JelSoft and see.

I think the toolbar is great, the only thing that doesn't work for me is the "New Thread" button. It's always greyed out no matter where I am on Neowin. I've also found that I can't find a "New Thread" link on any forum to make a a new thread, so the only way I can seem to make one is to subscribe to the forum, then click "New Thread" in the User CP. Not sure if that's normal or not... any help would be appreciated. Very handy tool, it will stay permanently on my IE toolbar :)

Edit: Well I figured out that "AdPurger" was filtering out the "New Thread" button on the web page, so that part is figured out at least. Even with AdPurger disabled though the "New Thread" button in the toolbar doesn't seem to work.

I understand what aaronsam means. Right now the "Forums" button only goes to the main forum listing, and he would like it to go to a specific forum, in his case, the Web Programming forum.

This wouldn't be hard to implement at all I believe. A simple drop down menu like the one for the main page with all of the different forums listed, or, an option for the user to select the forum they wish themselves. The drop Menu might get large, with 23 sub-forums here, so maybe the option to select your own would be best. Here's another idea ....

Have in the options (whenever you get around to it Vader, no rush, hehe), a listing of all 23 forums here at Neowin, and the ones the user would like to appear in the drop menu they can select. Once selected, the forums then appear in a drop menu under the "Forums" button. Anyone else have any ideas on implementing something like this?

aaronsam & PiMPiN: Ok if thats it then it wont be a problem to deal with.

Zombivac: Don't worry, I had to rewrite a bit of code so I disabled it until I got it to a state I was happy with :D

Neobond: I've had a bit of a re-jig and the caption has now gone (Been replace with somethnig a little better)

Cheers

    • Dead on arrival at that price. Like they missed the mark by multiple hundreds of dollars - this should actually undercut the Macbook Air at $899 if they want any sort of sales / further adoption of WoA
    • Wow, 50% increase for the base model. That's steep!
    • A group made up of dozens of cybersecurity experts, including several well-known veterans of the industry, published an open letter to the U.S. government asking it to lift the export control order on Anthropic’s Fable and Mythos models. According to the open letter, “this action has taken the best models away from [cybersecurity] defenders” who now can’t use the models to find vulnerabilities and make their software and products more secure. “To pull the best capabilities away from defenders without a good reason when our adversaries are rapidly advancing is dangerous,” read the letter. On Friday, the U.S. government ordered Anthropic to limit the export of Fable and Mythos, citing national security concerns, without explaining the specific reasons behind the order, according to Anthropic. In response, the company suspended access to the models to all users worldwide.     https://techcrunch.com/2026/06/15/cybersecurity-vets-protest-dangerous-us-government-ban-on-anthropics-most-powerful-models/
