d33
Hi, I have been playing around with Active Directory for past few days and i just want to know whether it's possible to view which softwares are installed in each user's machine so that i can remove unwanted softwares from their machines (user wise). is there any inbuilt feature or something? regards Deep Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/168636-win-2000-active-directory-computer-management/ Share on other sites

GT-Richard
That is only possible if you want to manage software installed by group policy, the answer to your question would be Microsoft SMS Server. dougkinzinger
Yes, the only way to actually monitor or check what software is installed on a client is to either only install client software via Group Policy or use some other third-party audit software (or buy and deploy SMS). verb`
SMS is not for the faint of heart, it has a pretty steep learning curve, as well as lofty hardware requirements. Its an enterprise management tool. If all you want is hardware inventories, you might look at something like AIDA32. For patches, check out HFNETCHK Pro. Both of these are free (hfnetchk is free for scanning use). My favorite to use to get a full software inventory though is the pstools collection. It has a program called PSINFO that will tell you virtually everything about a computer, and is free as well.
