It's a good beginning.

When it was finished, you can submit it

The domaine name http://www.crystalxp.net/ is available :)

i made a big pack to! (snowe2)

but it's in german and over 80mb big!

WOW !! 80mb !! it's surely a good work! cheer !!!

Got a one problem, when I open my network connections and try to open the properties window, my system suddenly crashes. It started right after I installed this shell pack and I think this shell pack is responcible for it :(

Yes, it's a bug with incompatible dll...

Have you update your Windows SP1 before installing??

  • 2 weeks later...

Just wanted to say thanks for all your hardwork. I got everything to install; however, there was one minor problem. Replacer.cmd stopped at shdocvw.dll.

So I just booted in safe mode and started again from shdocvw.dll and then everything worked like a charm!

Thanks again! This is an awesome pack!

About the network connections issue. Well, we had the same problems with Devil's Gant2 shellpack and devil fixed it by using a newer version of netshell.dll

The one in crystal pack is: 5.1.2600.1106

When I applied the gant pack I had 5.1.2600.1181

Now it turns out I have the following version: 5.1.2600.1254

(English WinXP Pro. SP1 w/all windows updates)

Anyhow, so I have the same problem with you NG_Nigma, but it's a small price to pay for something so great!

Ok, no problem
Hmmm... have a look at this one

It's msgina.dll !!! Your dll is German. And the dimensions are not the same. Batchmod (if you use this script to translate the pack) doesn't change the dimensions.

Send me your msgina.dll please. I will correct that

Hey dlb,

So I went ahead and compared all the files replaced (from the replacer script) with the ones I originally have (the backup files winxp sp1 eng)

Files: Crystal Version: My Version

hdwwiz.cpl: 5.1.2600.0: 5.1.2600.1125

netshell.dll: 5.1.2600.1106: 5.1.2600.1254

printui.dll: 5.1.2600.1106: 5.1.2600.1125

For future reference, I wrote them all in an xls document. You can find it here. http://www.babis.us/random/neowin/FileVersions.xls

Let me know if you want me to send you any of those files.

By the way, I just downloaded the cursors and it truly completes the suite!

Any chance of a WMP skin?

I found two WMP skins, but still hoping to see something extraordinary!

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
