Frogboy Administrators Posted May 31, 2004 Administrators Share Posted May 31, 2004 Airlock is one of the most original WB visual styles I've seen in awhile. It was created by MikeB for the GUI Olympics (http://www.guiolympics.com). Here's what I like about it: (1) It's very clean. It has a really good quality to it. Everything goes together with it. (2) It's very unique. Title bar is on the bottom in a REVERSE-BeOS style. I'm not sure I'd use it long term since I don't think I could get used to having title bar buttons on the bottom. But it is pretty damn creative which was the event it was entered into. Davebo
I've tried this one, and it's quality work for sure. I just couldn't get used to the widgets being on the bottom like that! It's nice that the customization options exist though. Windows sure looks cool when rolled up! Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/172669-vs-guio-airlock/#findComment-2192375 Share on other sites
Danrarbc
Theoretically putting the buttons on the bottom would be easier for people who keep the taskbar on the bottom because you don't have to move the mouse as much. But you just can't get used to it after years of having them on top. Nice skin (Y) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/172669-vs-guio-airlock/#findComment-2192478 Share on other sites

Deanobear
I had never really had a good look at it over at Guiolympics, I downloaded it, and I'm loving it, the color is great, and it's something a little different... :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/172669-vs-guio-airlock/#findComment-2196370 Share on other sites
sfalcon
Is the GUI 2004 logo on the logoff screen in the actual version? Cuz i think that takes away from it a bit. dividebyzero
I used airlock for quite a while. I fell in love with it instantly! Although, I couldnt use it for too long because of the widgets. This is probably a skin that'll be better suited for a game machine, or a logon that doesnt get used too often. That being said, MikeB updated Airlock with a substyle that puts the widgets on top too, like normal. Give that a try. It loses some of it's flair, but, it's still slick as hell. MikeB completely deserved the gold for most creative visual style. And with WB's colouring feature, in doesnt have to be that blue (nothing wrong with it) you can make it olive, slate, ergonomic, whatever. I [heart] WB. nuka_t
the buttons on the bottom are jsut a waste of space and are not fucntional. its still a very original idea though. Redestium
the buttons on the bottom are jsut a waste of space and are not fucntional. its still a very original idea though. There is a substyle that moves it to the top. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/172669-vs-guio-airlock/#findComment-2197060 Share on other sites

emirua
i think the normal version with the buttons on the top would have been better if it looked like the the toonXP style... not in the end of the title bar but just after the title... this way the wb wont lose its original style... if someone can said this to mike i think it would be a great addition..
