In response to ur questions K63Wilson,

I don't know all the answer, but that's a really good question when u ask regarding formats.

I download with iTunes and musicmatch b/c they have different songs that I want.

Guess what, they're not compatible w/ each other.

like, musicmatch is WMA protected, and iTunes is like MPEG-9 or something.

but anyways, for windows, most general software will recognize WMA: Nero, etc...

but they don't recognize iTunes format, at least not Nero.

So, to burn, ur gonna have to use iTunes software which is great if ur planning on using iTunes and it only.

Just take this into consideration....it gets pretty retarded.

Lion

The iRiver player look ugly as hell compared to the iPOD.

blabla

Hey all, I told you I'd gonna say what I thought about it.

Now I just got It by mail today :).

First impressions, wow, heavy (compared to the 128mb thingie I had before) and also a little bigger. But it's not really a bother me since its 20gb :woot:

And the hard drive seems to make a verry minivibration like a working harddrive when I record something, or load something, not when I'm playing song after song.. But it doesn't bother me neither.

So this are the only mini-contra's I have.

Oh, funk no, the sound could be a little louder too, it's enough, but you should have the choice to put it louder if you want to

Doesn't matter that it's uglier. You wont have to look at it, or be a fashionvictim. The unit is always in my pocket, and the remote is like a gift from above (uh, iRiver). I only need the remote to do all.

The big pro's are the big hd size (duh). the remote that ha's almost eveything the unit has, nice screen and all.

Nice music playback, great with my mdr-ex71. And compared to the iPod (which I never had but can d?cide this) it has a nice FM tuner that works like a charm, and a VERRY good sound recorder. Oh yea, and line-in 'n out.

+ it has allot of featurs, that with the iPod you'd have to buy (4g), like a case, an external mic (works VERRY good), some cables to get music from the stereo. And it doesn't scratch easily.

Battery seems ok, better than ipod anyway.

Scrolling and such is fine for me, buttons are ok after you read the manual.

Conclusion: It's a verry good player, wouldn't know one for the same price or lower that would be better.

What do you think, am I right? Any comments or something?

True but what about the price ratio to what you get. With iriver you get a remote, fm radio and microphone for recording, and a case.

With ipod, you get the ipod, and a crappy set of headphones.

iRiver is only 40 dollars more here in Canada, but with the student discount I can get another 40 off the ipod. I missed a sale with the iriver for 100 dollars off, and i hate myself for that right now.

edit: oh and also the fact that there tons of add-ons available for the ipod, but as far as i can see theres barely any for the iriver.

Edited by Xtreme $niper

yeah, but the add ons for the ipod are mostly the things that are already included in the iriver.

the ipod is easier to use at first, but after a week, the two are the same. it's like saying "windows is easier to use than linux" to a person who hasn't used either, or who's only used linux.

i think i'm going for the iriver.

it's just that i don't know if i should buy it now or wait. the h320 should be out soon as well.

i don't have the cash now cuz of a stupid speeding ticket, but there's always plastic :p

After reading all the reviews and comparisons between the iPod, iRiver and other hard drive based MP3 players, I have decided to go for the iRiver H140, which should be arriving in the next few days, yay! :D (thats put a dent in my student loan :pinch: but its worth it!)

Well I got my iRiver iHP-140 today, and its faulty!! :( When it switch it on its constantly making a clicking sound on the ear phones (while paused, playing or using the radio) apparently this is a common problem, according to the iRiver forums.

So I have emailed amazon, to see if I can return the faulty item and buy the 40GB iPod instead as its only ?29 more expensive.

is it really that noticeable? i've heard it's only noticeable during total silence. even though i like the featrues of the h120 better, the h320 is not supposed to have this problem, so i might just get that instead...

i bought an h140 after reading the reviews here. The clicking sound comes but is very faint... cannot hear it when music is played. But i think the volume is too low.I have not heard the ipod but i think i should have bought an ipod... i dont think i can return it

Contact iRiver support. If they think it's faulty, they'll gladly send you a new one (not refurbished).

    • Apple CEO Tim Cook confirms looming price hikes due to memory shortages by Hamid Ganji Image via Apple Memory and chip shortages have led to significant price increases for electronics over the past year, and it seems that more hikes are on the way for upcoming smartphones and computers. Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that the company is planning to increase the prices of some of its products due to the ongoing memory and storage shortages. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Cook confirmed the looming price hikes for Apple’s future products, adding that “Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable.” He also said the company is doing its best to “mitigate the huge increases that are being passed to us, and we’ve been trying to shield our customers from the increases, but the situation has become unsustainable.” The Apple CEO also noted that the allocation of a large portion of memory chips to AI companies has contributed to shortages in the market, resulting in lower supply at a time when demand for devices remains high. “We definitely need memory pricing and supply to return to reasonable levels for consumer products. That’s the bottom line,” Cook said. Cook also added that Apple is ready to use its vast cash reserves to help boost supply in the market because additional production capacity is needed. While he declined to specify how Apple plans to do that, he said the company will not build its own memory and storage factories despite its financial resources and silicon expertise. Cook did not provide further details on the scale of the price increases or which Apple products would be affected, though iPads and Macs could see higher prices sooner than other products. Apple’s next product launch event is scheduled for September, when the company is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and its first foldable iPhone. It remains unclear whether the upcoming iPhones will be affected by the price increases, but given the current memory shortage, higher prices seem increasingly likely. There is currently no clear timeline for the end of the memory shortage. Samsung, one of the world’s three largest memory chip manufacturers, recently said the shortage could persist for several more years.
    • Downloads does not equal actual usage, even less when the app is pre-installed in some Galaxy phones.
    • +1000 to this, don't understand why they added that margin around the top bar, even the close button is a PITA to click without aiming. Ofc, this is just preview and hopefully they will revert such odd UX decision before hitting final version.
    • so the people who bought this will get a refund?
