Looking for a Neowinian to fill a job!

Recommended Posts

Okay, so, as most of you know, I'm moving in 2 weeks, and my company (a law firm) will be without an IT guy. It's now up to me to find a replacement. So, here's the first basic requirements:

  • 1. You must live in the Panama City, Florida area (or be willing to commute daily).
  • 2. You must be over 18.
  • 3. You must be able to work in the United States.

Okay, with that out of the way, if any of you are still with me, we'll continue.

The job will change from what I do now, so here is pretty much what you'll be expected to do:

  • 1. Fix pretty much any non-network related computer issues that happen in the office.
  • 2. Help maintain the Intranet if possible. ** Not that important **
  • 3. Move systems around if needed, and help train employees if they need it.

There ya go. A lot of what I do is being spread out among others that already work here, but they'll need someone left to field all the non-critical computer issues.

So, I'll assume somebody is still with us... so I'll move on to the last part.

You will pretty much be answering only to one person besides the attorneys, which is the Office Manager. Normally she expects you to work on your own without much "managing", so to speak... but she likes to be kept in the loop via e-mail of any major things you plan on doing.

So, that's really it. You'd be the only IT person in the building, and you'd get the entire top floor of the building to yourself. It's not a bad job, and I wouldn't have left it if I wasn't moving to be with my MapleCookie.

So, if anyone is interested, please shoot me a PM, or post in this thread... or send me an e-mail.

And if anyone is curious, she told me to ask anyone I knew in the area about the job before I make up an ad to put in the paper so I thought this would technically count.

im in florida right now, but in the orlando area!

Oh noes! :( The sad thing is I'd rather hire a Neowinian, since for the most part I can get a better feel for the person by reading their previous posts... more so than meeting someone off the street for an interview.

Good thinking! When people come in for interviews they say and act the way they think you want them to so they lie and act fake. Reading old posts you will really be able to see if they are knowledgeable and got a good head on there shoulders...basically

i'm nosey too. got a round about figure of pay?

lol I'll go so far to say it's more than $13,000 a year and less than $16,500 a year starting. You do get raises regularly and good health plan, etc. Now for those of you thinkin' that's not much, as I said... for this career in this particular area, it's very good to be starting at.

@Digital Pimp - They do pay good for gas mileage, but only when it comes to actual driving FOR the firm, not to the firm.

You're 23 and only making $16,500?? :o That's like...$8.00 an hour!

Not that there's anything wrong with that....

You're 23 and only making $16,500?? :o

As I said... for the AREA I've been living the past year. Before this I was making an average of $25,000 a year... but then I was in a different part of the country.

Sadly Panama City and the surrounding area doesn't pay great for techs, as I said, this is decent pay for the career-field and area. Also, this happens to be the best company I've worked for in the past 2 or 3 years. No matter what I do they praise me and tell me how smart I am... lol Put it this way, whoever I hire is going to be the most technologically inclined person here... an Alpha Geek, if you will.

wow, i am ALMOST 21 and i am making roughly $20,000 per yer, post taxes $25,000 before (damn you taxes.. i want my $5000 back) of course those figures are assuming that i get no raises (and i expect i should be getting one soon :))

True true... but once again, remember kids, pay rates are very different around the country. I made a TON more than I do now doing half the work when I lived in Texas, but then again, I'm sure there are techs in this area who need a job (which I will admit, was hard to come by just in and of itself) who would kill to work here. It's actually one of the more well-known law firms in the area.

Sounds like a fun job but...

I'm way down in St. Pete and that would be a large pay cut for me  :(

Actually when I moved here and was interviewed for the job, that's exactly what I thought (that they pay was too low... a HUGE paycut from my last few jobs)... but then I talked to some people in the area and they told me to take it before it was snagged by someone else. That this was good pay for the area. Now, I knew I'd be moving from the beginning, but as I said, I'm sure there are others in the area that are working at McDonalds or something that wished they could get a job like this. Either way, if I don't find a Neowinian I'll have ads in the paper next week. Just wanted all my pals here to have first grabs.

I am 22, and have been making almost $30,000 a year working a tech job only part-time! Ofcourse, that is unusual I know, but I wouldn't be able to survive financially. Only sad thing, this is the news that came out about my company today:

Sucks for whoever that will be hopefully not my job though...

Ouch! :pinch: Well I hope it's not you, either!

@mick0142 - Thanks mate, that's what I was thinking as well. I figured there was always a chance someone might be up for it and also happen to read Neowin.

    • Yeah I have a Sound Blaster X3 too (bought myself) and that is set up with the 6-channel cable for true surround. BUT Spotify and TIDAL do not support 5.1 SACD formats so I have to use Acoustic Engine for the fake surround. Apparently Apple Music is the only music streaming service with true Atmos/5.1 support.
    • I was already thinking about trying Fairphone with Murena /e/OS exactly because I don't want any AI on my communication device. For now, I've turned off all AI possible and turned on "Process data only on device" on my Galaxy S24.
    • They should lower the price but make clothing in the shops, like they've had in previous games, actually cost money. (Unless it's required for a mission)
    • FotoSketcher Studio 4.30 by Razvan Serea FotoSketcher Studio is a free creative tool that instantly turns your photos into artwork. With just a few clicks, you can apply styles like pencil sketches, watercolor, oil painting, ink drawings, cartoons, and abstract effects. Powerful yet simple sliders let you adjust every detail to match your vision, from subtle enhancements to bold artistic transformations. You can also improve your images with tools for contrast, sharpness, color, and brightness, plus add frames and text. It supports JPEG, PNG (including transparency), BMP, and WebP formats for both opening and exporting. Available for Windows (64-bit) and macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), FotoSketcher also offers batch processing, manual retouching, and custom effects for advanced users. Completely free, including commercial use, with no ads or spyware. FotoSketcher Studio 4.30 changelog: New LUTs effect In the Photo Lab category you will find a new LUTs (Lookup Tables) effect for custom colour grading. It comes with 18 presets built right into the application (Cinematic, Kodachrome, Golden hour, Portrait and more), each with a live preview so you can see the look before applying it. Right-click the preview to compare with your original image. And if you have your own .cube files, you can load those from disk too. New "Stylize" category Added a brand-new Stylize category with four new effects. Three of them (Mosaic, Circles and Triangles) are built on the same space-filling idea, turning your photo into tiled mosaics, clusters of circles, or a low-poly triangle look. The fourth, Cartoon, is a bit different: it gives a clean graphic style with defined lines and solid colours. A little tip - set the colour intensity to 0 and Cartoon draws a pure outline drawing with no fill. Combined with the "Do not erase background" option, you can run it on top of any other effect to add crisp contours in two quick steps. Auto-Enhance and Full Reset Two small but handy additions. Auto-Enhance (just press E) tries to optimise your source photo - exposure, white balance, local contrast - for a 'dehazed', natural-looking starting point. And Full Reset clears everything back to a clean slate in one step (working image, history, LUT, script, brushes and sliders) without having to close and reopen the program. Press Ctrl+Shift+N, or right-click the exit button. Scripts The script engine has been updated to support all the new effects, with a few new commands and improved help. If you would like some inspiration, the recent scripting tutorial on this blog walks through several ready-made example scripts. The usual improvements The interface now uses new colour accents for better readability, the history gallery has had a few tweaks, and you can now open .webp images directly. On top of that, this release includes some performance improvements and a good number of bug fixes.
