Disappointing week for Firefox...

Question

The creator of the current Firefox default theme has posted that the Firefox devs will stop using his theme in favor of something more "uniform" and "free" across all supported platforms...meaning that they want to keep Firefox from looking too much like IE6 and also to create a "brand identity" that people will "recognize" across all platforms for Firefox and Thunderbird.

The change will occur this week...and will be the default for 0.9. I really hate this. Qute looks so great right now and I really wish they had pursued a better design. I'm sure you guys will agree that other themes will definitely have to be used once this monstrosity comes out in wide release the 12-14th. I am happy to report that Arvid will keep Qute alive for Firefox and will make it available as a theme for download.

Here's the original post. People are adding negative comments as we speak.

...and here is what is coming for 0.9, as checked into the branch builds.

UPDATE: TODAY'S 6/07 NIGHTLY BRANCH BUILD NOW HAS THE NEW THEME, AS PICTURED BELOW. TEST AWAY, POST COMMENTS, ETC.

I just read all 21 pages of the thread linked in the first message. Sounds like Arvid was being difficult, so FireFox told him to bugger off. They wanted something that they could control themselves. I don't see anything wrong with that. But it looks like another one of those immature urinating matches that people get into in life. It's about control. Some people like to tempt fate thinking they are so important nobody can take them on and other people delight in putting a boot up their butt and telling them to get lost. Goes to show you that nobody is indispensible and power can corrupt. Nobody looks good in something like this. I think it is funny that the new theme is designed to look like Luna because Luna is a pretty goofy theme to begin with. :D

I heard its been checked into Aviary. So we'll be able to see it tomorrow, maybe.

Look no further.

Today's 6/07 nightly build has the new theme. I can confirm it and 0.9 RC 1 is going to be release tomorrow.

Hope some people on this thread take a look at it.

New theme has been checked in. My build has it included and all aviary builds today should have it.

Where can n00bs like me get the latest FireFox with the new Pinstripe interface? I could compare it to the one in FireFox .8 and see which I like better. Thanks.

Very kind of ya. Is the Tinderbox build the same as the nightlies? BTW, I got the new version now and I do kind of like the default theme. I like this other one I found called Charamel better, but this one that is now included is just fine.

That is a great theme. I also like EyeCandy and Pinball, but the Charamel has me mezmorized. BTW, is it me or does .9 nightly build seem more stable than .8? Again, thanks for the link. :)

Just downloaded Bangbang's build, and it is GOOD!! Msstyle themes look better on the new firefox, the new theme is nicer. Way better then before I think.

Another user, sweet. Thanks for downloading it man.

I have to agree with you, the new theme looks awesome and the tabs seems ot work better with the VS's. I thought I would have to use a 3rd party skin, but I'm sticking with winstripe for sure.

i recently installed the latest nightly build and forgot to backup my bookmarks. does this mean i lost them? all the toolbar ones are gone too. i had them backed up from a few weeks ago but i have added a few since then? arg

Depends - a little while down the line the location for storing bookmarks changed from the Phoenix folder to a Firefox one - odds are the Phoenix one is still there with bookmarks and all.

    • I noticed this was already happening within my organization; my teams location will change between remote and on-site without me having to do anything. Is it possible this is live already for select customers?
    • I wonder what it will show when I'm plugged in with my ethernet cable at home and not using WiFi.
    • While LibreOffice is not pleased to see a new competitor, they are absolutely correct in stating that Euro-Office using a MS file standard as a default is not being truly "European." Using a MS standard just means Euro-Office is just a "bastardized MS Office Suite." (Wasn't a major purpose of Euro-Office was to get away from being captive and enslaved to MS's Office Suite??)
    • Microsoft continues its long-term policy of spying on their users--despite vehement denials. That feature will be disabled (or removed) either "elegantly" with MS providing a true way to disable it, or "quick and dirty" via a third-party who WILL come up with a way to disable it. Your choice MS...
